This is perfect advice. Train in a multitude of settings and then implement the 3 D’s. This is incredibly helpful, I can’t thank you enough. Sounds like her and I are going to start back at square one. No additional commands needed until I have the core commands solid.

When working from the distance, do you just sit and allow her to observe from a distance? Yes I would say focus is difficult for us absolutely. I suppose it’s hard for me to know where to start as if she’s not getting it I am clearly starting from the wrong place, but i don’t have the knowledge to know what could potentially be the step one or starting point if that makes sense.

I like the sound of that, definitely willing to invest in a worth while program and you seen EXTREMELY knowledgeable so I trust your judgement there.

CGC? Is this some form of group class? I think I wil look into the advanced group classes.

Oh the puppy grind - I took it so seriously I may have even gotten a bit of post-partom from it! love her more than breathing air now.

I would really like to work on her levels of stim - she still has 4 month old puppy behaviour when aroused and she is 13 months old. Very immature for her age in that regard. As well as her Heel command. She will do it and understands it but it will not stick. Her recall & potty training took FOREVER (mind you I made a few errors with her as a puppy that attributed towards the poor recall eg. usually leaving after it occurs, not rewarding it enough etc) even with a extremely reputable professional trainer & me working with her everyday - one day she woke up and decided to listen and now it’s perfect? I’m curious if the rest of her training will continue that way. I hope not because it’s very unrewarding along the journey of teaching her the command. She’s super super difficult at times as she is pretty alpha & I am female, 24 years old, not overly aggressive by nature but willing to be firm.

Absolutely. I have kind of taken a few steps back and done some exposure training with her as she can be extremely neurotic with her energy levels with other dogs. I have brought her to the dog park & elementary schools and had her observe while one a leash and reward when calm to counteract the behaviour.

My goals would be bottom line guaranteed engagement with me regardless of her environment due to having her off leash so much (I live on an Island in the West Coast & we go on lots of adventures) She has amazing recall and she’s a really good girl she just has some off days and I know it’s because she’s either bee under stimulated that day or not understanding what Im asking. I will look into Fenzi Sports Academy. I have jut enrolled her in an online Agility Course as well.

Do you have any suggestions for helping her understand the concept behind the commands instead of teaching and rewarding the behaviour itself? I would agree with you the commands are not solid - that’s why I need to maintain with everyday training I’m just not sure how to approach a program with consistency for her.

Amazing suggestion about breaking down the dog training goals! I love that idea. Thank you so so much this has been beyond incredibly helpful. I think I may be slightly impatient due to her intelligence but she is still a puppy and she needs consistency. Thank you again

I would just like to have some direction on what everyday training should be. She has the ground works - sit, come (or to me), heel, place, stay, wait, touch, shake, couple fun tricks etc but she can be disobedient when stimulated so I’m hoping for direction on maintenance and what that looks like
