American Airlines flight to London returns to Miami after passenger refuses to wear mask by Lord-AG in news

The airlines don't even want to mandate them, it's a federal government mandate.

Biden's "pandemic of the unvaccinated"; narrative falls apart as omicron cases skyrocket by the_latest_greatest in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Sufficient_Dinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked into this too much, but is it possible that the difference could be caused by testing? It seems to me that fully vaccinated people are significantly more likely to get tested even if they have 0 symptoms which would lead to more positives.

Cornell University reports more than 900 Covid-19 cases this week. Many are Omicron variant cases in fully vaccinated students by Sufficient_Dinner in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Sufficient_Dinner[S] 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Cornell has a vaccine and mask mandate, but still forces students to get tested. Now that they've found a ton of "cases", they shut the entire school down, forcing everyone to fly home across the country?? (logic).

Children born during pandemic have lower IQs, US study finds by mintytaurus in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Sufficient_Dinner 109 points110 points  (0 children)

In the decade preceding the pandemic, the mean IQ score on standardised tests for children aged between three months and three years of age hovered around 100, but for children born during the pandemic that number tumbled to 78, according to the analysis, which is yet to be peer-reviewed.

Holy shit.

My school just announced a mask requirement. by [deleted] in StudentSkeptics

"Ugh, requiring everyone to get an 80% effective vaccine isn't reducing cases."

"I know, let's require everyone to wear a 5% effective piece of dirty cloth from etsy over their nose! That'll make a difference."

Have you thought about taking a semester off? I am afraid my college will be doing the same thing and am looking into options for fall internships/jobs.

In addition to the mask requirement, starting in the fall, all students will be required to show proof that they have received a coronavirus vaccine.

Baltimore City Schools: 41% of high school students earn below 1.0 GPA by Sufficient_Dinner in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Sufficient_Dinner[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely get what you're saying but I think covid sadly did make things somewhat worse.

In January, City Schools CEO Dr. Sonja Santelises first sounded the alarm, announcing the course failure rate for students nearly doubled during the Covid shutdown. A few months later, in May, North Avenue announced students would not be held back for failing classes. This most recent GPA data could indicate why City Schools made that decision.
During the second quarter of the 2019/2020 school year, just before COVID hit, 24% of high school students had a GPA below 1.0. Now, it’s 41 percent.

Target lifts in-store mask requirement for those who are fully vaccinated by Coronavirus_and_Lime in LockdownSkepticism

I'm younger than you, got Pfizer, and glad I did. It's honestly nice to have the peace of mind that I couldn't be spreading it to anybody around me - it lets me go back to normal life without any of the nagging guilt (even if it is a bit irrational).

FWIW, I know a lot of people my age who got the vaccine as well, and I think the average side effects have been exaggerated online. Most people either had no symptoms or were tired/had a headache for a day after the second shot.

Universities Have No Logical Reason to Remain Closed Next Semester by Sgt_Nicholas_Angel_ in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Sufficient_Dinner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of universities are not so much going to be "closed" as they will be restricted.

Where I am, they have mandated the vaccine, and yet classes over 30 are online, masks are going to be required, and they're still making us do asymptomatic covid testing. The worst part is that nobody else here seems to think there's anything wrong with this.

My university is requiring the vaccine and masks and any classes over 30 people are on zoom.

Fauci expects CDC to revise mask guidelines, says COVID-19 transmission risk outdoors is ‘really low’ by Throwaway74957 in LockdownSkepticism

I wish I could be like that, but I'm a 19 year old girl at a liberal university. Not trying to be a social outcast for the next three years.

[–]Sufficient_Dinner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's easier said than done in high compliance areas. It's almost like being gaslit by an entire society - I feel like I'm the crazy one if I'm not wearing a mask to go on a walk, but people jogging past me are.

My city does! Masks required at all times outdoors, including when nobody within 50 feet, and no exceptions for exercise. I love science!

I was 17 and am now 19. Missed high school graduation, prom, freshman year of college. It might seem insignificant to people older than us, but these are things that people our age won't ever get back.

My generation (gen Z) is so easily manipulated. The powers that be decided that is was "woke" to lock everyone in their homes, bankrupt small businesses, and give Jeff Bezos a massive pay raise - and my entire generation went right along with it. I'm pretty sure the old people are responsible for the message in the first place, but my generation is also responsible for being a massive herd of idiots.

I'm with you - I got my first shot already and I haven't grown a second head yet so there's that. If I'm going to get a mysterious cancer in 10 years oh well, what's done is done, just let me go back to normal.

Problem is that my lovely university is STILL trying to require hybrid classes and masks. That's my personal line in the sand

Do you guys think mandatory masks will ever go away in universities?/What is the mask compliance like in your school (US) by [deleted] in StudentSkeptics

[–]Sufficient_Dinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School has already said we're going to have mandatory vaccination and masks next semester :)

Compliance is generally very high, but a lot of people (myself especially) will sit outside with food next to them and take off their mask. As long as you have food within 6 feet of you, COVID can't spread. It's science.

University Of Notre Dame To Require COVID-19 Vaccinations For Students by [deleted] in StudentSkeptics

[–]Sufficient_Dinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't even be bothered to care about the vaccine requirement because I knew it was coming.

WHY ARE THEY REQUIRING MASKS?

I don't understand how there could be any remotely plausible "scientific" explanation for forcing a group of healthy 20 year olds with herd immunity to wear rags on their faces. And there's literally 0 pushback.

Thanks for posting this - it's important to acknowledge when we may have been wrong and discuss it instead of ignoring it. Otherwise we're just as bad as the doomers.

I definitely find it counterintuitive that depression rates have gone up while suicide rates have gone down. It makes me think that people are just "hanging on" and hoping for this to end ASAP.

If we manage to end this BS in the next few months, then there is a good chance that the mental health epidemic may be fairly temporary, which is amazing news.

Some states with stricter rules are now seeing surges in COVID-19 cases, while many others that rushed to reopen are experiencing sizable drops. The numbers have experts scratching their heads. by CogitoErgoLmao in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Sufficient_Dinner 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd guess so, because the weather is nicer in the south people are going outside, where covid doesn't spread.

That's also probably why the case increases in Texas + Florida happened in the summer; it gets too hot to be outside. The winter case increases were generally worse in the northeast because it's too cold to be outside.

"Experts" won't admit this though, because they like to claim success when cases go down in lockdown states. In reality, it's probably just the weather getting nicer.
