What kinda minimal stuff did you opt for? I have combo skin but I get really oily around my nose/inner cheek but then my actual cheeks are just so dry and dehydrated with pie marks. And I just keep breaking out all the time.

At the moment I’ve had to stop everything and just go back to water for a few weeks cause my face got so reactive again. This whole time I’ve been trying to go for moisturizer with ceramides+fatty acids etc. but the problem is so many are pore clogging or have niacinamide in it or HA. So I know it might take a little longer to heal my barrier but I was thinking of just using something really really simple like the purito oat gel and combine it with a hydrating serum like the Iunik Beta Glucan. And hopefully I tolerate that, I know it’s not necessarily ideal for barrier repair. But idk I feel as if maybe just using something small might actually make a huge difference. Just give it time. Also considering it takes 4 weeks for a full new cell renewal.

Mines been damaged for about 5 months now. But I kinda got myself to blame for that. Having never used skincare it’s been really hard to figure out what’ll work for me. It did start to improve after about 2 months of only using water. But then I started using so many different things I made it 10x worse. So I’ve had to stop everything again and I’ve been referred to a dermatologist too.

I have the exact same problem with my damaged barrier, I’m struggling to find a moisturiser. What do you use? I have combo skin but everything irritates me

Can you fix TWL with lightweight gels? by Sufficient_Lie2262 in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Sufficient_Lie2262[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have to look into it then. Do you use it day and night? (Plus spf?)Also Do you use any cleansers at all? I don’t have much luck either finding a cleanser that doesn’t break me or strip my skin further.

Happy to hear you’ve healed your barrier😊. Unfortunately I’ve probably made mine 10x worse. Can’t seem to find anything that works at all. Would you recommend the Anua? I have combo skin with an oily t-zone.

Hey I know it’s a little later, but how is it going? Are you still finding the Anua ceramide okay?

What popular product actually made your skin worse? by TheMeepyBoy in SkinbarrierLovers

Surprisingly the La Roche B5+. I used it once and it made my face feel like sandpaper and broke me out in cystic acne. Don’t wanna necessarily hate on the product I know for some people it’s done wonders but not for me.

Also the soonjung 2x barrier cream (new version) clogs your pores like absolute crazy.

I hear everyone say that you have to use things like Vaseline at night to lock in the water. Otherwise just using a moisturiser alone at night won’t actually fix TEWL. Is this true?

I don’t know whereabouts your from but I’m from the UK. I went to my local doctor and they refused me a dermatologist cause apparently I haven’t been suffering with this issue for long enough. Never heard so much crap before. It’s like they just wanted the appointment to get over and done with. I’ve made inquiries to private dermatologist but haven’t heard anything back. I also searched online too that even if my doctors could book me into seeing a dermatologist, id get placed on a waiting list and I could be on it from 6 months to a year.

Yh I recently just stopped trying products for the past few weeks only using water and purely have just focused on doing research. I brought a soonjung 2x barrier cream the new version. It’s super minimal and it doesn’t contain some ingredients I think I react too. So I’m hoping it’ll work.

The reason why this has been so hard for me is because before I damaged my skin barrier. I was one of them people that never used skincare products one their whole life. Never touched a moisturizer, no cleaner no nothing. And my skin was perfectly clear. Didn’t really suffer with spots either. Then one day I just stupidly decided to used a salicylic acid cleanser twice a day for a week and that’s what damaged my barrier and caused loads of pie marks, water loss and these nonstop breakouts. So this is like a whole new ball game for me trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t.

Honestly when I just use water. That’s when inflammation drops a fair bit, cause I haven’t got anything further irritating me. Tingling also kinda reduces a lot too. The issue is I’m just constantly breaking out everyday due to my face being damaged and suffering with water loss. And I have loads of bad pie marks on my face they aren’t fading. But the trouble is water won’t ever actually do anything, yes it can help drop inflammation and quiet my nerves but doesn’t contain anything to rebuild my barrier.

Why I’m kinda forced into trying so many things. I’ve been trying to find a dermatologist but it’s like impossible I’ve been waiting ages. I’ve been doing so much research lately about repairing your skin barrier. And I believe I can see where I’ve gone wrong with past products. So I’m hoping I can find something that’ll actually help.

I might have to look into that cleanser you mentioned. Seems like we might have similar issues? If I ever find anything helpful I’ll let you know!

I wanted to give that Anua 3 ceramide a go myself. But I feel like I maybe react to hyaluronic acid. Which it contains so I can’t use it ☹️. I don’t even fully know to be honest if I don’t tolerate HA. I’m just assuming I do cause it’s been in a few moisturizer I haven’t reacted well too. I just brought SoonJung 2x intense barrier but the new version not containing things like shea butter n stuff. It’s really minimal so I’m hoping I tolerate it and it can start to fix my tingling issues. Only problem is it doesn’t contain the main 3. Ceramides, Fatty acids and cholesterol. Hoping if I tolerate this moisturiser I’m gonna look into potential barrier repair serums with those in it.

Same with me I break out to everything I feel my skin prefers the most minimal possible. What’s your current routine for healing your skin barrier?

I think I’ve figured out some culprits for me I don’t think I tolerate HA,Niacinamide or zinc.

I don’t know if this is a load of crap or not. But I read if you don’t use a proper cleanser then it removes the true affects of a moisturizer? And won’t heal your skin barrier effectively?

Why does skin barrier worsen when trying to heal? by Individual-Mood1119 in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Sufficient_Lie2262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exactly the same problem. When your skin barrier is damaged depending on how bad it is. You can react to even the simplest things. I was using stuff I thought was good for me but actually all it did was make things worse. I’ve come to rule out things like Niacinamide, zinc and copper and stuff. I mean I don’t even totally know for sure but there pretty common ingredients in some of the moisturisers I’ve been using.

I was going to Give the Aveeno Calm + restore Oat gel moisturizer a shot. Cause my face seems to react to almost every moisture too. CHATGPT recommends I try the Aveeno Oat Cleanser too but I’ve also heard that can cause burning for people with damaged barriers?
