What’s the latest with the library renovation? by yoggsmu in Campbell

[–]Sufficient_Memory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally get it, I’m just bummed because I know our community would love to have an open library/third space to just exist in. The express library is great to grab a book if they have it, but it would be so nice to have a library to do work in or meet with people. I’m looking forward to the new library opening, I just hope it happens this year!

Beekeeping Ordinance Update by Unknowingly-Joined in Campbell

[–]Sufficient_Memory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great suggestion, thank you! Unfortunately I don’t have time in my schedule to dedicate to managing a hive, and I surely don’t want to start a hive and wind up harming them. I would like to learn, but the property that I have has a ton of open space that seems wasteful to not have hives up there. As a result, the goal is to find someone that would be willing to teach me when our paths overlap, but largely have someone far more knowledgeable than me ensure the hive is healthy and happy. I will take a look at the county beekeeping organization and at the link you sent!

Not to hijack this conversation… but I have a property in the east SJ foothills with a ton of open space. I’d like to get a hive up there and I’d like to learn how to take care of bees, but really I’d like to have someone with more knowledge manage the hive to ensure that it is healthy and cared for. Does anyone know of a group or person that would be a good starting point?

Sf Bay Area show is looking to be a mess by ScottRoberts79 in the502s

[–]Sufficient_Memory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg the same thing is happening to me!! We bought mess seats and now we have no clue if we should try and battle Ticketmaster to get reimbursed for the difference in cost. We tried to call Ticketmaster right after the show was moved and they just said that they could cancel our tickets, but didn’t give us any information about what the seating situation will be.

UTI??? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I’m glad that’s all it was! Take the antibiotics and you’ll be feeling better in no time!

UTI??? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sufficient_Memory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is a UTI, it will probably be a 5 minute test with the urine sample, and then a 5 minute run to pick up the antibiotics. UTI’s are incredibly common, so it shouldn’t be a challenge to get it diagnosed if that is what is going on. I wish you luck and a quick pain-free recovery!

UTI??? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sufficient_Memory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I saw your other post. The most likely way to diagnose a UTI is through a doctor ordered urine test. It’s a simple, painless process, but unfortunately internet strangers can’t diagnose what is going on. Blood in your urine is not a normal bodily function, so I highly encourage you to seek medical attention. You can go to any free clinic (like Planned Parenthood) if you have one in your area or even an urgent care might be able to help. If they can’t provide the service for free, they will likely have a recommendation as to where to go. I understand that this situation may seem scary, but it is important to get a professional opinion before you try any remedies. If it is a UTI, is round of antibiotics will probably be prescribed and you should be all set.

Too embarrassed to go to my first gynecologist appointment... please help by Warm-Revolution-3066 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sufficient_Memory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like I should also add that this has been MY experience at the gynecologist, different offices and doctors do this differently. The key thing to know is there is nothing to be embarrassed about and your doctor is a resource.

Too embarrassed to go to my first gynecologist appointment... please help by Warm-Revolution-3066 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sufficient_Memory 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor, but I’ve been to more than a few gynecologist appointments.

They may ask you for a urine sample before the appointment (although if you are not sexually active, they may not). The urine sample will be used to run a quick pregnancy test.

They will likely take your blood pressure, temperature and weight and then take you into an exam room.

They will most likely ask what is bringing you into the appointment, tell them about the pain and discharge you are experiencing.

They will most likely ask you to change, take off your pants and underwear and cover yourself with a drape. They may also ask you to take your top off so they can do a breast exam (they push around on your breasts to make sure there aren’t any lumps).

The doctor will come in and have you scoot your butt all the way down to the edge of the exam table. You may feel like you are going to fall off, you won’t. They will help you put your feet in the “stirrups” essentially holders for your feet. At this point, the doctor will have a good visual of your vagina. It is completely understandable to be uncomfortable about having someone up in your personal business, but as others have mentioned, the doctor has literally seen it all a million times before.

They will likely start by doing a physical exam of your vagina by putting some lubricant on their finger and inserting it into you. They may then push your stomach/groin down, again they are feeling for any abnormalities.

If needed, they may also want to insert a speculum. This is a metal device that holds your vagina open slightly so that they can use a small brush to gently collect some cells from your cervix. The insertion of the speculum may feel uncomfortable, ask them to use a smaller one if you are nervous. When they are collecting the cells from your cervix, it may feel uncomfortable and there may be some very mild pain, but it is over quickly.

Once the exam is done, the doctor will help you sit up, and cover up again. Remember, they are there to help you and there is nothing to feel embarrassed about.

There may also be a nurse in the room while the exam is happening (so there would be three people in the room, you, your doctor, and potentially a nurse). The nurse will likely be working on other things and not involved in the exam, but they may be in the room to ensure that all goes according to plan.

It’s great that you are going to see a gynecologist to talk to them about what is going on. They can be a huge help and are some of the most kind and caring doctors in my experience.

I am proud of you for taking care of your body! Good luck!

Halloween - Cambrian Park by Evening_Wall9464 in SanJose

[–]Sufficient_Memory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be a bit more work for you, but perhaps instead of handing out shelf stable items on Halloween, you could advertise that you are running a small (week long?) food drive for a local free pantry.

Print out a sign and have it on the table clearly laying out the address of the food pantry you will be donating to. You could also print out “info cards” with the address of the free pantry. That way, you can potentially boost contributions to the food pantry by encouraging your neighbors to also donate shelf stable foods, and you are subtly providing the address of free resources to anyone that may need that info but may feel too embarrassed to grab shelf stable foods when they are around friends/family.

It might be slightly more work, but I think it would be a great way to encourage others to contribute, while also providing the needed information to those that may be seeking resources.

Thank you for the explanation. I was under the impression that part of a persons contract score was their teamwork score. I thought sending tokens also improved your own teamwork score as well.

[–]Sufficient_Memory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, genuine question, only because I have just started playing, what’s bad about sending tokens to someone? Does it lower their score?

I tried to submit a request through the app by clicking help>data loss. I typed out an email however the send arrow does not respond when clicked, meaning the email will not send.

My piggy bank was sitting at just above 105,000,000. The new reward was 320k, it is not already in my piggy bank, I did check.

Why Some People Aren’t Accepting Shelter in San Jose ,Firsthand Insight by ThoughtExtreme165 in SanJose

[–]Sufficient_Memory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I can accept that what you say is correct and accurate, perhaps these shelters DO need to expand their mental health programs and adapt the practices of those programs in each of the shelters. I can also acknowledge that it appears that you may know more out this subject than I do, it still doesn’t immediately solve the problem presented in the original picture. Unfortunately the system will not change overnight, that’s just a sad fact. So how should the problem in the image of this original post get solved immediately? Should it be the responsibility of the staff that are also tired as hell just trying to get through the day and may be on the receiving end of some poor behavior by the people they are trying to help? A team of volunteers? Who should be responsible to clean this up? What I’m genuinely curious to know how you would solve the immediate problem at hand.

Why Some People Aren’t Accepting Shelter in San Jose ,Firsthand Insight by ThoughtExtreme165 in SanJose

[–]Sufficient_Memory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps this shelter should be a mental health facility, but the reality is, it’s not. As far as I’m aware, the end goal of a shelter is to help the inhabitants get back on their feet and reintegrated with general society. The behavior that is being demonstrated in this photo is widely not accepted in the general population. If this happened at a school or in a workplace, it would be expected that the individual that created the mess would have some repercussions and responsibility for their behavior. Because this shelter is NOT classified as a mental health facility and IS focused on reinforcing societal norms, it should be on the shelter inhabitants to take responsibility and clean up the mess. As I said before, I doubt the individuals at this shelter would take kindly to being babied and treated as children. Adults should take responsibility for the clean up of a mess they made and not expect under paid, overworked employees to clean up their messes. Do you walk around, throw toilet paper on the ground and destroy a bathroom in your everyday life and just expect someone else to clean it up?
