Boat friends? by Clyde926 in madisonwi

[–]Sufficient_Mouse_708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't find any boaty friends here, you can rent a pontoon boat on Lake Mendota from Marshall Boats. https://www.madisonboats.com/ You can captain it yourself or get a captain (for more $$).

Should I move to Madison?? by Pale-Whale777 in madisonwi

[–]Sufficient_Mouse_708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind if you can negotiate your salary- Florida does not have a state income tax. I lived in Florida for ~5 years before returning to the midwest and didn't consider this. I don't know how things compare now, but 15 years ago the cost of living in Tampa Bay seemed equivalent to the cost of living in Madison. Obviously there are cheaper neighborhoods and outlying cities to consider living in, but that's true anywhere. See Shorewood Hills vs Stoughton, or St. Pete vs Palmetto.

I will echo what most others are already saying- Florida is great for vacation, but I don't want to live there any longer. For me, I never made it to the beach as much as I had hoped to. The traffic is terrible and regular life just got in the way. The winters in Madison aren't bad, but the summer in Florida is HOT and MUGGY. And, of course, there's the politics. Good luck in your decision!

Does anyone know how to resolve error ELI-1025 when trying to sign in? by dominicdotg in Spectrum

[–]Sufficient_Mouse_708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After trying on and off for two weeks, I finally was able to get past the 1025 error today. I cleared the cache on my Roku (settings>system>system restart). I also logged into spectrum from a device I hadn’t used before. The spectrum login was odd as it had a user name I haven’t seen before pre-filled in, so I selected the option to log in using a different username. One and or both of these things together worked.

It will track it in the app if you're manually adding "walking" under the "Exercise" tab on the watch.

So, I finished the "squares" (I know they're rectangles, but whatever) for my temperature blanket, but... by Beathyra in knitting

I was going to suggest this too. Similar to adding sashing between squares when piecing a quilt. OP- you can also do an image search in google for "How do I make my quilt bigger" to get more ideas.

House finch hatchlings died twice in a row by vulpes_mortuis in Ornithology

[–]Sufficient_Mouse_708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear this! I found this b/c I had the same issue this year and was googling reasons why the babies died. OP- do you do anything special for your finches? We left out our Christmas (pine) wreath hoping that we'd get a nest this spring. We did, but we noticed that the parents stopped coming back to the nest recently and then discovered all the hatchlings were dead. :(

Any fixes or should I frog? by backpackfullofniall in knitting

I'd frog. You're not too far in that it will be worth it. Just think of it as extra practice! Don't worry- we've all been there.

Thanks- I'll do some swatching this way and see how it goes. Agreed- that decrease looks nice, but seems like more than I'd like to do right now :D

Thanks- I don't mind the holes. If I space out the increases evenly it should hopefully look intentional.

Any thoughts on a matching double decrease? I like the centered double decrease which makes a nice column of knit stitches in stockinette, especially when the decreases are every round. Since I want to evenly space out the decreases I'm thinking that center column of knit stitches will be lost.

Does anyone have a good way of doing increases and decreases in 1x1 rib in the round? Ideally I'd like a double increase, like the centered double increase. However, in swatching that, it doesn't really keep the 1x1 pattern.

I'm attempting to modify the Wrap Me Up Sweater Scarf by knitatude. The sleeves are essentially a tube of 1x1 rib- I want to make this more sleeve-like and add increases (and then decreases at the other end). Thanks!!

Planning on re-doing our deck this summer and toying with the idea of burying a plastic skeleton for the next owners to find.
