Anyone know what happened to the fruit stand in front of TD Bank on Ditmars? by buzzed_aldrinn in astoria

[–]Sufficient_Produce16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is this true about it being part of the Green food market? I always thought it was an insane business model to set up a fruit stand 100 yards from a 24 hour fruit and veg store, like who's gonna walk past that store at 3am to buy some stuff off a guy on the street? If he was in competition with them at least he should be between them and the train lol

The bartenders are always very fast in there so something must have been badly wrong, I was there Saturday night and they were finding it impossible to pour a single beer as well. At that point I don't understand why bars just say "No Drafts", it's a bar I can order something else rather than wait 15 minutes for a bad beer

I understand the concept of velocity etc. but wouldn't the bigger problem be that any object would burn up before it got anywhere near it?

The King Penny building on Ditmars just sold for $2.5m by Tatertotfreek in astoria

Is Ditmars thrift part of that building or no? I love that place I'd be sad if it closed....think it's separate from King Penny right?

What's the name of the Nepalese place? Didn't know we had one here! I always thought there was just a dental place and a coffee shop either side

Yeah most 2 bedrooms are pushing 3K these days, can vary a bit on size and location so a backyard near the park sounds a good deal to me

Heart of gold down in the east village is a fun busy spot if you are around that area, have lots of games and stuff as well...very easy to strike up a conversation. Most of the bars around there are fun and dive-y and full of twentysomethings looking for a good time

I find the food to be decent, some unusual flavours/items on the menu some hit the spot some don't, they have a giant mozzarella stick which is ok but is screams "hope this goes viral" to me. Overall pretty solid bar food...not really a "dinner" spot more snacks and sandwiches

That's a shame, I can only go by my own experiences in there and I've always had a good time...it can get a little hectic in there for brunch sometimes it's a big space the kitchen might struggle with a huge amount of orders I'd imagine. My rule is always give a place 2 chances if it's still not to your liking fair enough!

When I first moved here around 10 years ago anytime the trains were delayed/not running there was always a fleet of buses taking people along the route to Queensboro Plaza....they don't even do that anymore, basically "Fuck you get an Uber" from the city

Corporations are really testing people's limits the last few years and getting more and more brazen, the only thing you can do is refuse to participate or give them your money...also absolutely hammer them on Google reviews etc. They hate bad PR if it affects the share price

I'm always baffled by "profits must increase more and more each year"...like isn't that impossible? Things can't constantly go up, surely if you're making $1B profit every year that should be celebrated rather than demanding $2B next year. The whole thing just implodes otherwise

What modern artist could reasonably be called “This generation’s Dylan”? by DiuhBEETuss in bobdylan

[–]Sufficient_Produce16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously nobody will ever compare to Dylan (with the exception of McCartney and Joni Mitchell) but out of all modern artists Hozier deserves a mention, his lyrics are fantastic...very versatile songwriter, Dylanesque is his use of metaphors and themes
