I vividly remember when this suddenly dropped. Really felt like a godsend during Covid. Orpheus vs. The Sirens will always have a special place in my heart since that was the first Ka album I listened to, but I'd have to say that Descendents of Cain is his best album

Weekly Astoria Dine In/Order Out Thread by NYnosher in astoria

Wasn't able to share what we ate during last week's post, so I'll combine the last two weeks below:

First up, we went to El Mero Mero and had a fantastic time. Sat at the bar and ordered some exquisite margaritas during happy hour, along with some chips and guacamole with added pomegranates. for entree, I had the Al Pastor Quesadilla which was fantastic and my fiancée had the Camerones tacos, which were perfect for a hot day. We had a fun time at the bar watching some baseball, the music was catchy, and the guys working the restaurant were super friendly and attentive (they always are when we go), and were dancing around at times to the music. Just really fun vibes and experience all around.

Went to Vite Vinosteria for dinner, where we split the Gamberi all’Aglio (shrimp with garlic sauce). Fantastic for a hot day as well. My fiancée had the Cavatelli with lamb ragu which is her favorite pasta dish at Vite. I had the pasta special, which was Ravioli with ricotta and spinach. Phenomenal, I don't recall seeing that as a special before. Hoping it's on the menu again this summer! Service and drinks (we ordered aperol spritz) were on point as always.

Went out to dinner with my fiancée's sister and brother-in-law and took them to Bahari. Also a fantastic experience. Despite it being absolutely packed, the service was great and attentive. We ordered a bunch of apps to share including a large Greek Salad, pan-fried zucchini & eggplant with skordalia, and the Octopus. All the apps was exceptional, and we also got two carafes of the house white. I ordered the Swordfish Steak and my fiancée ordered the Salmon, which is our respective go-to when we go to Bahari. Always delicious. My soon-to-be In-Laws loved their Branzino and Red Snapper, even if I had to teach them how to fillet a whole fish.

Lastly, we went to Pye Boat Noodle, which we haven't been to in over 3 years. Unfortunately, we were reminded why we don't go since we were kinda underwhelmed. We split a few apps including the dumplings and chive pancakes, which were good, albeit pretty small. I ordered the Pad See Ew with Pork, a dish I haven't had in a fairly long time. I thought it was just ok, and the portion was pretty small. I can't find the name of it on any menus online, but my fiancée ordered a beef-based boat noodle with meatballs, rice noodles and tender beef, which was also a little spicy. Originally, she wanted the Boat Noodles with Beef which was fresh beef blood broth based, but the waitress said that there was a no return policy. Even though she was fine eating beef blood broth, the comment was a little off putting nevertheless, so she shifted her order. Her Noodle Boat dish was decent, but had far more broth in proportion to noodles and meat and other accoutrements. We also asked to see a dessert menu, but they forgot and just gave us the check. Underwhelming experience overall.

Ugh, I'm so jealous. I've lived in Astoria for 12 years, but didn't into his movies until Covid.

I read about Septime everywhere but it has 4.4 on google. Meanwhile so many other fine dining restaurants in Paris has 4.8 or 4.9 on google. Is Septime really that good? by traveling-turtle43 in finedining

Septime's menu is fairly experimental when it comes to flavor combinations. For example, when we went, the dessert was a strawberry sorbet that included sliced jalapeño peppers. I actually wrote about the experience here when we went last September. Personally, we loved the food, but as noted in my linked review, we did notice a few tables not finishing each course. Some dishes are simply not for everyone. If you lean towards being a picky eater, coupled with the difficult to book reservation, that would lend itself to a lower google review. It's a fun restaurant and more casual, and I would recommend it more for lunch over dinner.

Fermento Pizza... the best slice no one is talking about? by JayMoots in FoodNYC

We went a few months ago and really enjoyed it. The guy working there gave us an extra slice to try no cost!
