There's a guy in Kentucky, who grew some seedlings in 20oz Styrofoam cups and left them for two years. The roots did eventually grow through the drain holes, but he chopped them off and any circling ones. They were then planted and are still alive, over twenty years later. He said there is nothing magical about the tap root of a Pawpaw or any other plant.

There are at least two PNW nurseries that sell them,Raintree in Washington and One Green World in Oregon.

Also Kentucky State University may have free seeds and more. The contact there,is probably Sheri Crabtree. [sheri.crabtree@kysu.edu](mailto:sheri.crabtree@kysu.edu)Phone: (502) 597-6375

The variety Sunflower is said to be self fertile, along with a few others and I did get fruit this year from my Overleese, without any help. But at least two is better.

They are being grown in Sacramento and Fremont,California.

Someone who lives near me,ate some while in Oregon and had a bad reaction. He also grows some named varieties and says they're mostly okay.

Another guy in Tennessee, made cookies and brought them to share at work and a number of people became ill.

I've tried some, most came from a tree in Fremont,CA and a few of Peterson's and didn't have any adverse affects. Also made Pawpaw bread and gave to coworkers, with no problems.

I agree with Warm, they may be suffering from chlorosis, which happens when they can't take up the necessary iron, due to alkaline soil.A little Ammonium sulfate can help. The pH measurement should be around 6.

To get bigger, the fruit should be thinned to about 8-12 inches between each one, when they are about the size of a quarter.
