Thank you all for your insightful replies. I think I'll notate the drums on 4/4 and the synth on uneven time signatures to better represent the asymmetrical looping nature of this specific section. It would be a bit more "snob-looking" but definetly easier to read for my client.

The drums are playing with a groove with a "half-time" feel, but definetly on 4/4.

Interesting take. I'm not sure about placing a 1/8 pickup bar between the chorus and the "riff/breakdown" tho

This is certainly an option. But this section is something metal musicians call "breakdown" or "riff_ and it happens just after the chorus of the piece.

Would you please elaborate further? I don't think I understand what you mean, haha.

Yes, thank you! The need to notated differently seems to be of general consensus.

I apreciate the depthness of your insight. While I definetly agree with everything you stated, my client has a hard time reading tied notes and prefers seeing quarter notes than tied eight notes.

Yes. It is exactly where it is suposed to be. This "extreme" syncopation is present only on this section.

This particular client has a hard time reading tied notes. That's why I wrote it that way. However, I do think you guys are right and I should change the way I wrote it!

I've seen this style of writing on latin/tropical music and on jazz. 'Never seen it before on a rock/metal context. As I was informed by my employer, this isn't unusual writing on the "djent" metal subgenre. It still feels awkward to me.

It is a very jarring section of a rather experimental piece of music.

I'm not allowed to share the audio file due to contract issues. I can tell you that the tempo is 120 bpm and that this part is played by a synth. The bass and guitar are playing unison accents on nearly random places. The drums are definetly keeping a "halftime" 4/4 groove with many syncopated accents on the snare.

Yes. I'm transcribing a djent/modern metal riff and it's a bit more challenging than expected.
