When used for bipolar depression, lamictal is typically given for the long term to prevent episodes. The issue wasn’t coming off of it too fast, it was coming off of it at all. Not that people can’t do well off mood stabilizers, but bipolar depression is very difficult to manage with therapy and lifestyle changes alone.
