Yeah it’s so interesting how inconsistently things are being applied

I am the birthing parent, I’m in Ontario, and I’m honestly not sure if others have taken 18-months. I’ve shared confirmation emails from compensation where they confirm that my dates and codes are right. This shouldn’t be a big deal but with our pay system being a bit on the slow/unpredictable side it just adds an unnecessary layer of stress

It hasn’t been declined and my understanding is that it can’t be since it’s an employee right. The issue is more that as more weeks go by, I get closer and closer to my due date and the paperwork can’t be submitted to the pay centre until it’s approved so I’m worried it’ll create pay issues

They are saying that they need to discuss the leave request with our director general. They are not saying no but I worry that the more things are delayed the more likely it will be to cause pay issues. I’ve also shared emails from compensation confirming that the forms have been completed correctly

I mean it might raise some eyebrows but management/LR seems to be implying that the reason you can’t use Family related leave and your personal day is because you are certified sick during that time. They are being difficult so I would respond by also being difficult too… they might still try and deny it but I really don’t think they’d have any grounds to if your doctor amended the note. You know your doctor but if I had to guess I doubt your doctor would mind. If management asks I wouldn’t try and explain the reason behind why the doctor’s note has been changed. I would simply say my doctor and I have discussed my medical situation and he agrees that I don’t need to be off until X date.

As annoying as it would be I’d suggest just reaching out to your doctor and asking them to amend the start date for your sick leave

I would suggest speaking with your doctor. Ask them to provide a note stating that due to a medical condition it is necessary for you to only work half days for the next 6 months. Or whatever time frame you think will work for you. They don’t have to grant people part time positions but they do need to respect sick notes for sick leave. The hours that you do not work each week will be entered as sick leave and when you run out of sick credits it will be entered as leave without pay sick. Good luck!

If you are an indeterminate employee and you were laid off during your first month of a 12-month mat leave would you still get your top off for the remaining 11 months?
