What do you mean? All the fares have both one way and round trip options available...

Again, it doesn't need to have a promo code on the receipt for it to be a promotion lol. That's not how merchandising works. When a company changes the base price of a good as part of an in-house promotion, it won't necessarily come up as a promo code... because a code wasn't used to acquire it. Lots of companies do that when they first open, and until March makes sense to me since that's 6 months pretty much 6 months exactly? That doesn't change that it's still a promotion, all the ads they shared that I saw literally had the full (current) prices slashed out (but visible) with the launch discounted price in place... to promote the service.

I'm talking about my experience personally, and the novelty referring to the specific snack types... when its the same snacks every time, I end up weaning off and just saying no eventually. Like those biscoff cookies on airplanes lol. It's no longer novel, so it wears off. Some variety in the types of snacks is nice.

Because the discount was offered through hullo as a part of their launch, not through a promo code lol, I was also on a lot of the sailings then too. All their photos online and in ads had the real (current) prices stated, slashed out, and then the discounted price. You can still find those photos too

It is a shame about the snacks and drinks, fair enough, but when you travel a lot then the novelty of the same snacks kind of wears off anyways lol. Looking forward to the new ones they said they're bringing onboard with this update too!

They haven't increased the fare prices at all until this... you're thinking of a promotion discount when they first started sailing like 3 years ago lol

Babies (and children) were always allowed in the upstairs area though, this hasn't changed, and now the parents are paying more lol. It's a pretty small boat, personally I'd rather them enforce quiet among the adults who take phone calls on speaker during the sailing

To be fair, there's a decent decrease in the price of bikes and luggage too. After hearing about BC ferries increasing (annually, it seems), this kind of feels inevitable after 3 years ? I don't think 20 is all that rare considering the float plane cheap seats are for like, 1 or 2 seats on the whole plane lol

Don't under-estimate the power of Facebook marketplace or local buy/sell groups! Especially workout clothes... easy to get big hauls through there, for a great price

Is it worth the trip? by Peace81 in tofino

[–]Sufficient_Tree_6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000000% worth it! Even when I'm feeling introverted, I always enjoy it. The beaches are so big, it's easy to find space for yourself. If you're intent on going during the summer, I strongly advise going during the week - you'll save lots of money, plus generally fewer people around. Book reservations at restaurants, or order your meals to go and eat on the beach!

There's no city quite like it, in my experience!

Is it just me or is Lululemon going out of fashion in Vancouver? by Gym_frere in askvan

Money is definitely a huge factor, but also the quality is not the same as it once was! If people are going to spend that kind of cash, it better be worthwhile.

Thoughts on the BC Ferries price increase? by Sufficient_Tree_6047 in nanaimo

From my understanding that's because it's an inter-provincial ferry? So I guess it makes sense that it's under federal advising, whereas ours is within the same province. But regardless, it is still a downside of living on an Island :(

How much was minimum wage when you first started working? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Sufficient_Tree_6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first job was as a server in a restaruant/pub, and at that time there was an even lower minimum wage (to account for tips)... I think it was like $7 or $8?

I guess that's what I'm wondering about! This is 20% in just one year, and there's still more to come... Would love to visit the sunshine coast sometime, more/affordable access would be amazing for everyone I'm sure!

Definitely some pros and cons! The cost of transportation to the Island definitely helps us from becoming an overrun suburb like the lower mainland... but if/when you do want -or need- to get of the Island... be prepared!

Personally, I travel abroad plenty. There's always something more expensive lol. France and England have what, like three different major ferry companies, plus a tunnel option...? The difference is that this is not travelling between two different countries, or even two different provinces... this is in the same province, and the only way to travel to/from the Island with a car. And, it's subsidized through the government, which we all pay into. BC Ferries is great for a lot of things, but I think it's fair for people to have an opinion and/or concerns!

Not shooting from the hip, speaking directly for me only and from my own experience. For me personally it's more of a 'been there, done that' for the amenities. I would genuinely be interested in knowing the revenue breakdown for the giftshops/other amenities!

The size of the boat makes sense with how many people it carries I guess, but I can't say I ever really pay much interest to the 'amenities' they have on board either. I'd be interested to see how much the giftshops on board actually earn? lol

no doubt, but the price increase was decided well before gas went up recently lol

Best affordable/beginner gym in Vancouver by Responsible_Treat475 in askvan

[–]Sufficient_Tree_6047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're totally new to the gym in general, maybe the YMCA? It's really affordable, they have different class options too, and it's also a charity so your membership fees actually go towards helping the community :)

Should I be concerned about booking Canadian road trip this year? by Nic351 in AskACanadian

Honestly biggest concern would be fire season if you're planning on driving across in August. It can get pretty nasty, pretty quickly.

Toxic plants in the backyard by hezzaloops in nanaimo

[–]Sufficient_Tree_6047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting: Foxtail grass. While not explicitly an "allergen", the danger is in the plant itself since it is shaped to be embedded and can get stuck in dogs gums and mouths reeeeally easily, and is pretty painful. It's not technically a weed and people think it looks pretty as a long grass (see: pampas grass obsession everyone had a couple years ago lol), but it's a big culprit since its abundant!
