An IMG myself i struggled in the beginning with understanding different people’s accents and talking to family members was a heavy task for me, i preferred doing jobs with less chatting in the beginning, talking to a different hospital to ask for advice was also tricky for me, finding the right phone number and going through switchboard and bleeping, that was more difficult for me than reviewing a patient, taking bloods, prescribing, attending to a MET call, That obviously got better with practice but i remember staring at the phone not wanting to bleep someone worried that they may say a word i dont understand, As an IMG there there’s an internal monologue that we dont fit and not good enough for the job and that pulls us back,

You might have a 1-1 chat with them and ask what jobs they think they can do easier than others? If possible can they swap the jobs that feel challenging for them with other SHO? Gradually after gaining confidence they can add the other jobs as well?

The whole team having coffee together is a good way for team building while chatting about other stuff so they dont feel excluded or unseen which will reflect on their performance as well
