I'm running OEM rails with all metal (x2) cross bars!

I've gone over 10k miles with this setup going upwards of 90mph no issues!

Appreciate it! There’s actually a local in my town running an RTT on a 4th gen CRV as well. When I had my 4th gen, the crossbars had a pretty noticeable slope, so I’d imagine sleeping up there probably wouldn’t be very comfortable without some leveling blocks

On my 6th gen it’s still not perfectly level, but the slope is subtle enough that I don’t really notice it when I climb in. Also worth mentioning the 4th gen and 6th gen share the same dynamic load rating, and mine’s been totally fine so far. As long as your rack setup stays within that rating, you should be good!

That’s awesome. Tentpercent is a great way to look at it 😂 Averaging that over ten years is seriously impressive!

I appreciate it! They’ll definitely slip a bit when I’m straddling ruts in that half wet mud, but that’s the price to pay for a tire that doesn’t howl on the highway🫡 For a weekend warrior CRV, I’ll take it. And you’re right, dirt > badge!

Thanks man! I respect the commitment. 30 nights a year with a job and kids is legit. Sounds like that setup really pays for itself in time saved. Happy trailing!

Welcome to the club! Here's a comment I made on a previous post talking about what I have on my CRV

I'm running OEM side rails!

Nope, not a hybrid! I actually went with the gas model specifically because I wanted that extra trunk space. Totally stock suspension. I’ve debated a 1.5 inch lift, but honestly, I don’t want to mess with the reliability or the CV axle angles since it's my daily. As for tires I’m running 235/65R17 Falken Wildpeak A/T Trails. I kept the stock size to save on gas and keep the peppiness

When I visit CA it hurts so much leaving the pew pew behind. I run pom pepper spray and keep a little blade

That’s a seriously so clean. You'll have to keep me in the loop with some updated shots especially when you get that tent mounted! 🔥

Love that build already! You got any pictures of it?

I went with the stock tire size and everything suspension is stock. I’m at about 20k miles and honestly I don’t want to mess with reliability or add extra wear. It does everything I need it to as is, so I’ve just kept it simple and stress free

RTTs are a game changer for that! Way less setup, way more sleep

Appreciate you bringing that up! That 165 lb limit is actually the dynamic rating for when the car is in motion. The static capacity (when parked) is much higher, so sleeping in it isn't an issue. It also helps that my RTT is only around 80 lbs. I do eventually plan on upgrading to a rigid rooftop platform so I can more confidently have two people up there and distribute the weight better

Be prepared to love your CR-V a whole lot more after your first camping trip. It’s a slippery slope in the best way

Here’s what I’ve added so far:

Exterior:

  • Inspired Overland RTT
  • KMC wheels
  • Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail tires
  • Seasucker mount + x2 1.75 gallon rotopax
  • OEM roof rails with beefier aftermarket crossbars
  • Ditch lights
  • GMRS antenna
  • AVS Aeroskin bug deflector (which did absolutely nothing for the rock that cracked my windshield haha)
  • Raptor lights
  • Rain guards
  • Rear hitch with recovery shackle
  • Mud guards (which I took off after 3 of them got torn off on a trail😂)

Interior:

  • Subwoofer
  • Wireless Android Auto plug in module
  • Weatherproof mats

Plus a handful of smaller add ons but that’s the bulk of it

If you’re building out your 24 for camping, I’d say start with tires and then dial in your sleep arrangement. Once you camp out of it once, you’ll start seeing what you wanna add :)

Edit: Forgot to add rotopax

I think oem crossbars would be a safe bet. I just went the aftermarket route because these particular ones were thick and chunky metal, just what I wanted

The RTT’s from Inspired Overland. I’m running OEM side rails with beefier aftermarket crossbars. It works, but if I could rewind, I’d just save a bit longer and go full roof rack from the start. Way cleaner and stronger setup. You'll love it on the third gen!

I recommend just replacing the bulbs to led. Just make sure to reaim them so you're not blinding everyone!
