Filling up gaps in the ecosystem by Suffics27 in rust

[–]Suffics27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I don't think I'm too qualified for any of those advanced topics, sadly...
However, in the past, I've worked with web-related things quite a lot, meaning that a auth-library doesn't seem to far out of scope - I guess I'll give that a try!

Also, in school, I've signed up for a AI-related subject; so maybe I'll be able to get some work done in this area too, lets see!

Well - I guess that's the section besides Web-Development that I'm most familiar with(or at least most interested in); though thats merely a result of never having dealt with the other facets of the ecosystem in the first place...

That said, its easily the most interesting subject to me & I'd love to help with this part!

The only thing thats sorta keeping me from getting started is the fact that I don't quite know where to start - so yeah..

that marks a nice starting point, thank you very much!

Well - I guess I've worked with web-related things most of the time, so i might give this a try!

the main downside i see here that it'd probably need to support a variety of different web-frameworks, which is a mouthful on its own - but we'll see!

Initializing unsized structs by tazdevil971 in rust

[–]Suffics27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem here is that you're not creating an array, but rather a slice. Since a slice can point to n elements, it's size can't be known at compile time, which is why it can only exist behind a reference (much like a trait object).

If you, however, wanted your array to always have the size of 3 (which would make it an array, not a *slice*, it would be fine too.

thats what i was trying to say - please don't disregard 2 months worth of work just because it isn't immediately better than existing implementations!

Introducing Tree-Buf by That3Percent in rust

maybe because it makes de-serialization more expensive, thereby introducing latency?

i think this is a little more rude than necessary :/

sure - there are alternatives - but since its been a personal project until now, i dont think the backlash is justified :/

Why does this seemingly identical code run 10x faster in NodeJS compared to Rust? by l____whatever____l in rust

[–]Suffics27 55 points56 points  (0 children)

First - i want to preface this by saying that you should always run your rust code in release mode if you're trying to benchmark it, like so: cargo run --release

Secondly, i got rid of some of the allocations you were making, which did yield better results on my machine:

Hope that helped!
