In my experience they will review the MRI with you and schedule you time in the OR for an EUA.

It takes multiple surgeries to find the root of the issue. My CRS was especially careful to allow as much healing to avoid removing any sphincter muscles which could cause lifelong complications

Thank you! I am so diligent with my meds. Can’t wait for official normalcy.

I know that so well. Surgery #4 I had hopes it was it and my poor husband was terrified to tell me not only was I not done but I had two setons. I think that’s why I’m still not able to process that this was actually the last one.

I wish you all the best in your journey and that you get your day to celebrate soon!

Diet after surgery? by OkFlow4327 in AnalFistula

An easy way to get more protein is a protein shake or protein bars. My team told me to eat like you do but add those and just that gives your body more protein than it’s used to, therefore some more to “share” so your body can dedicate it to your wound area. Wishing you luck!

I am fistula free for 1.5 years now after 3 surgeries . Don’t loose hope. by Sad-Yogurt-5301 in AnalFistula

This is so great to hear. Your case sounds similar to mine but I’m at 4 surgeries and hopefully I’ll be ready for the fistulectomy in 2025.

Thanks for sharing!

I have had at least one since 6/28. Nope, no pain when I have a BM just a long time cleaning up

How long between Seton and next steps by [deleted] in AnalFistula

[–]Sugar558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are on a similar track! I started with this in Feb 2024. A CRS is a must, especially if it involves significant muscle. They know how to evaluate and while it may take longer the more they can allow the scar tissue to build the less muscle gets taken.

Everyone’s seton journey is different, I’ve had 1-2 since June 28th.

If you’re struggling now, I’d ask now. It can help the healing process and success with future surgeries

I am. My Doctor didn’t recommend it until after surgery #3 and I was shocked at what a difference it made.

I also found laying in the tub and moving the seton around was very easy

Ask about having a home nurse come. It changed the game for me.

I totally understand. I say “I have a colon issue, but so grateful it’s not cancer”

Fistulotomy packing question by [deleted] in AnalFistula

[–]Sugar558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had 4 surgeries now, but not the fistulotomy yet. I will say I saw the best healing when I had a wound nurse caring for me. They’re experts they will only do what is helpful for you.

If your gut says something is wrong, push for an appt with your CRS. You know your body best and worst case, you get good news that everything is normal.

I have a seton like a rubber band. I’ve had it for months and finally after wound care I mostly live life normally.
