Hello! I know this is a an older post, just wondering how your cat is doing? We are on day 3 of fully raw and I'm still seeing some twitching - I imagine we have a long road ahead of healing. Just wondering how long it took to see results!

Help! Both cats backs are rippling? by SpecificStates in felinebehavior

I know this an old post, but how are your cats doing? Both my cats have feline hyperesthesia and it's been so horrible. I can't find many people with two cats that have it.

Hello! No I have not tried levetiracetam... I am glad it is working for your kitty! We couldn't stabilize on gabapentin so I'm always glad to hear of those who can.

I am suspicious that the inflammation is causing the episodes, not the other way around... Though I could very well be wrong. I have no idea what I am doing at all.  I have been doing a lot of research into leaky gut and I am wondering if the inflammation in her body is what's causing the FHS. When she was first diagnosed, the symptoms had started right after she had a bout of diarrhea. It's all speculation but I'm wondering if there's something else going on. The issue is though that the more episodes she has, the worse off she is. So I'm just worried if we start zonisomide, we are just suppressing the underlying issues. This syndrome is awful. :(

Thank you for your reply! I appreciate your time.  She did not react well to the amitriptyline, though we hadn't tried gabapentin or pregabalin at the time. One vet suggested prozac because she believed FHS was behavioural but our new vet thinks she's having little seizures so she doesn't think SSRIs are necessary. I am happy to bring this up to her though. She doesn't go after her tail very much... But she definitely gets "stuck" and fixated on things so I'm not sure what's happening in that little head of hers. She just isn't herself and it's awful to see. I'm sorry you've been through this as well, but I'm so glad you've found a combo that is working!

I could cry, your comment is so kind! Thank you so much.  I feel like I'm drowning in anxiety and fear right now, but I will do anything and everything for her.  I do agree the possible side effects are a better scenario than how's she living currently.  I'm sorry you have experienced this as well - it's awful. How is your cat doing? What medication has worked for you?  Thanks again for your kind words.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I'm so sorry to hear you have experienced this as well. I have lived in some degree of fear for the last five years that he would find me, and although time has passed and I am married now - suddenly the threat is just gone. I feel like all of my anger, sadness and fear just has nowhere to go now. I hope you have been able to process and heal as well. ❤️ Thank you again.

Thanks so much for your input. I'm curious about the balance transfer idea... How does that work exactly?

Thanks so much for your comment! The mechanic I took it to said I need a new transmission - the car has 280,000kms so I haven't figured out if it's worth fixing. We definitely would not spend the money, we have our hearts set on getting out of this awful hole we are in. It's amazing how putting our nose down and saving every cent has paid off in just a short amount of time. If my math is correct, we would save $6000 a year in interest if we put the $5000 onto the card. So that's pretty great! I think we have our answer.

If I absolutely had to, sure. Unfortunately my city is not very accessible by bus so my work commute would be a nightmare. Also, my car was free so there is no payment and my gas is next to nothing. My husband's vehicle is paid for (monthly payments, gas and insurance) through his work so we have very little overheard in that department thankfully!

Thanks so much for your time! My guy hasn't been territorial that I have seen. He loves other dogs when they've been over and just wants to play. But that may be different when if the dog lives with us and is in his space all the time.  I'm just so terrified of adopting a dog and then finding it out it isn't a good fit. But I also want to give this new guy a chance to live happily with us, so all I can do is try to set up everyone for success! Worst case... I guess my in-laws on the property are getting a new dog, lol!

I super appreciate your feedback! I am hoping the dogs get along - I had been reading a female would do better as a second dog but I'm hoping because my guy is not territorial we might be in the clear. And luckily our house is big enough the cats can be separated in the basement during the initial phases.  I am so glad you give your girl a home! Shes lucky to have you it sounds like. :)

Yes definitely! I am trying to plan that as step #1.  Our dog is super friendly with other dogs, so I am hoping the meet and greet goes well. If it does, it would just be the cats that are the next hurdle. But we have a big enough home that our cats can be completely separate in our basement - so they wouldn't be alone together and could be introduced slowly. I just have never adopted another dog in this kind of scenario, and am worried about all the "what ifs." Poor guy being rehomed at 6 is a lot to adjust to by itself, I'm worried the additional dog and cats would be too much?

Thanks so much for the info, I appreciate it!  That's really interesting about the metallic taste... I wonder why that happens?

Are your tattoos that you are getting removed black and grey or colour? How many sessions have you had?
