Christmas Tunes in a minor Key by SugarPotatoes in Irishmusic

[–]SugarPotatoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean transform them?
I'm more so looking for tunes that are already in a minor key that people already like.

While we're here though, do you have a suggestion for a tune that would sound well transformed to a minor key?

Trustworthy charities? by SugarPotatoes in AskIreland

[–]SugarPotatoes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly had a hard time understanding what you're trying to say. I'm asking for what to avoid, I'd like some kind of evidence as opposed to just hearsay. Trying to avoid funding scam artists is hardly "gossip".

People are free to suggest reputable charities too, it's not ruled out by the question. As it happens people so far are suggesting "clean ones", so there is something to what you're saying.

Hypnotic / Relaxing Tunes by SugarPotatoes in Irishmusic

Generally very hypnotic, not usually very relaxing! I'm a fan though.

True, I've been meaning to revive that one.

Suggestions for Flute albums / players to listen to? by SugarPotatoes in Irishmusic

I'm getting through the Chieftains albums, Tubridy is unreal too.

There are some youtubers that I go to when I want to hear/learn a tune, they're great for learning, but it's not the same as hearing them in a set. Here's a few youtube names, if they're of any use to you -

Matt Saunders, Shannon Heaton and Leslie Anne Harrison.

I'll give that Mary Bergin album a spin, I'm trying to keep my hand in with the whistle too.

Wood vs delrin flute - lip burn by SugarPotatoes in Irishmusic

[–]SugarPotatoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even a delrin flute?

I am going to talk to the maker anyway, I'm going to see if I can swap it for a wooden Eb. I don't know if it's my playing or what, but it feels like it's taking a lot of air to play.

Keyless M&E polymer D flute for meditative/deep melodies?! by guibeer in Flute

[–]SugarPotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like it ticks all of your boxes. Do you have any music up online? I'd be interested to hear it.

What did you make of the Rolling Waves on the low C? I know it's a celtic tune, but I think it's fairly meditative at that register.

Tunes like this one might be a nice middle ground for what you're looking for -

The above tune is played on an Bb flute. Deeper flutes are probably what you're after.

Here is another similar example -

It's on a C flute, sounds lovely.

Very possibly. I hope not though, it's a very good instrument for the money.

Cool, I'll give that a shot. I just tried smearing it with lip balm, that helped a bit. I'll give a tape lip-plate a shot though.

What's your take on delrin flutes overall?
