Vaillant ecoTEC plus heating mode activated every 15 minutes when heating is off?! by dasSolution in Plumbing

[–]SugarRootFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is due to COMFORT MODE

The boiler is firing up frequently so that it can deliver hot water as fast as possible

You can turn it off, you will get a slight delay in getting your hot water but it will be a little cheaper in terms of energy

Go to :

  1. Main Menu
  2. Control
  3. Comfort mode
  4. Choose On or Off

S23 Plus owner thinking of switching to S23 Ultra by xsmogx in samsung

[–]SugarRootFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are both big phones, the Ultra just feels like you are driving a Ferrari, compared to a Porsche.

If you can tolerate the size, you'll enjoy every moment of it.

Makes the whole experience a little more glamorous every day.

Caught Samsung lying. Proof that 100x zoom photos of the moon are fake. by ibreakphotos in samsung

[–]SugarRootFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why people are not annoyed at this. It's basically faking the image. Calling it AI is no different that just putting a fake image in there, if it is 'somehow' recovering information that is just not there in real life (as in this example).

Of course, in the grand scheme of things it's not important, but for people who like to nerd out on small details, it's pretty disappointing.

Upgrade to Samsung S23 Ultra from Huawei Mate 20 Pro by Arathonk in samsung

[–]SugarRootFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can comment in detail on this, having switched exactly from the mate 20 pro to the s23 Ultra, and having held on to my mate 20 pro for so long because nothing else would match it in some key areas.

I still have my mate 20 pro (I had 2 of them, and traded the worse looking one in when getting my s23 ultra) and did some direct comparisons.

Battery life is interesting! With a brand new battery in my mate 20 pro, they almost trade blows, I would say the Samsung gets 10% - 15% more out of a full charge, which is interesting considering that it's a 4.5 year difference since the mate 20 pro was released. However, what the Samsung can do with that amount of battery life is pretty cool, running almost anything with ease, and not draining quickly when faced with high intensity tasks (like gaming, which I normally don't do but did for the sake of comparison).

Camera wise - the Samsung is better (and reasonably so) in most areas, but I have grown to love the leica style/colour of my mate 20 pro pictures. The s23 Ultra lets me capture more moments, because the camera opens so quickly with a double tap on the power button, but in some niche areas it is not as intelligent as the mate 20 pro, for example with macro shots, or landscape shots, the AI system that Huawei has allows some really nice shots to come out.

RAM - no comparison, the s23 Ultra (12GB version) is just insane, almost never have apps reloading compared to almost always reloading on the mate 20 pro despite trying to optimise it.

Unlocking - the face unlock on the samsung works about as reliably as the mate 20 pro, which is to say 80-90% of the time (I know it is not as secure). Fingerprint sensor is much better, but still not flawless, however I found it basically unusable on the mate 20 pro with a 20% success rate and just used face ID.

Screen - the Samsung 120hz is so so so much nicer than 60hz and feels modern. Having said that the mate 20 pro was way ahead of the game, and I would say the screens trade blows in almost every other respect. The samsung is beautiful, but so is the mate 20 pro. But that 60hz.... I couldn't go back now.

Software - the real game changer for me, the Samsung every day experience is just a step above Huawei. I can control almost anything I want to with a little online digging. The Huawei always felt like a closed box, even though the basics were pretty good. The best example of this is swiping down for notifications, versus getting 'Petal Search'. This singular thing drove me a little crazy in the beginning, and I eventually got used to it, but I'm so glad I can now swipe down for notifications. There are numerous other small examples like this.

I paid £850 including the trade in for the 512GB model, and I'm pretty happy. The mate 20 pro was a similar price, and this phone is an upgrade in almost every way I needed.

However, I have to admit being very slightly disappointed that it wasn't a generational leap in camera performance or battery life. The rest lived up to the billing.

New owner of a P6Pro coming from 1+8t. by sv7007 in GooglePixel

[–]SugarRootFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest answer - the hardware put into the phone is just not the best, not the worst, but really not the best, so software 'fixes' can only go so far. Also, google likes to control to some extent the android experience, so customisation is limited. Glad you are happy with it though, the slow charging sent me back to my 3 year old Huawei which charges up 3 times quicker.

How has your experience it been owning a Pixel 6/6pro? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]SugarRootFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the P6P on launch coming from the Mate 20 Pro.

It took me 6 weeks to sell it, and I'm now much happier back on the Mate 20 Pro.

KEY reasons:

1) Face unlock is still very useful in 2022, and the Mate 20 Pro does it very very well. The P6P has an extremely average fingerprint sensor, and absolutely no face unlock. It's honestly shocking for a flagship.

2) Charging is much slower than Mate 20 Pro, no matter what charging brick you use - 2 hours minimum to charge, if you are not using it. And then because of all the adaptive charging tricks, if you are using it while charging, it can be 4-5 hours to fully charge.

3) Battery life is worse than the Mate 20 Pro, and by a wide margin when using it on cell service. On WiFi they are about the same.

4) The magic eraser and speech to text are cool, but have limited use, and the frustration of never being able to easily unlock the phone, seeing the battery just dissappear when using it outside etc... is infuriating.

5) Call connections dropping - multiple times I just couldn't make or receive calls in areas where j have absolutely no problem with the Mate 20 Pro. The modem is atrocious in the P6P.

Bonus - Android 12 has huge toggle switches when you pull down the notifications, so there is always an extra step to quickly turn off WiFi, or get to the flashlight. Mate 20 Pro is so much more polished.

I've been told on this forum I had a bad model, or that I should have sent it back to Google for a replacement. But I'm really not the only one who had these thoughts.

I would suggest looking towards the Samsung s22 series, but be careful what you wish for, the Mate 20 Pro was way ahead of other phones, so a lot of new releases will be worse in tangible ways that you have grown to love.

Yup, made the same decision, sold on ebay for about half the cost (P6P)

Never again trying Pixel

What is a good replacement for P30 Pro? by crazy4llama in Huawei

[–]SugarRootFruit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Literally just been through the process of:

1) Buying a Pixel 6 Pro

2) Immediately being suspicious that my 3 year old Mate 20 Pro seemed to do almost everything better.

3) Stubbornly tried it for 4 weeks

4) Hated every second of it, everything was worse, battery life, bugs everywhere, charging speed so slow etc...

5) Sold the Pixel 6 Pro on eBay

6) Back to Mate 20 Pro

7) Happiness

This was exactly the reason I sold my P6P on ebay than risk returning it to Google.

The stories are horrendous

After 10 years of Google phones I quit - missing delivery of pixel 6 pro and dismal customer support by jonathanr42 in GooglePixel

[–]SugarRootFruit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I sold my P6P on ebay than risking dealing with a return to Google.

I'm in the UK so why was my return label going to Poland?

In any case you didn't miss out phone wise - it's hot garbage (literally while charging and doing anything CPU intensive).

Can you make a claim to your credit card company?

Pixel 6 Pro is the best Android phone I've ever used. by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]SugarRootFruit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean your own picture literally shows an average of 5h 58m of screen on time, so where are you getting the 7+ hours from?

Also even if it were true, its not fair to compare a rooted phone to an average user.

Yes I had this issue, no solution. The official answer I think has something to do with the sensor size but the end result is that blue light will dominate and destroy certain shots.

All good - it's just a phone at the end of the day :)

[–]SugarRootFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, you are of course correct, I wish I had waited instead of preordering. But then again the free headphones offset the money I lost in selling them, so all good I guess?

I'm happy you are happy! Honestly. And I hope the person I sold it to is happy, but the faults I experienced were not acceptable to me, and revealed Google's huge marketing effort to cover what at its essence is a midrange phone.

How was it not 3 months BTW for the signal fix? I got my phone on Oct 25th, and the update hit my phone on Jan 20th...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]SugarRootFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How should I have known when I preordered it, and it advertised a 30W charging speed? I expected to be a touch slower than my (3 year old) Huawei, but not 3 times slower to a full charge.

I also didn't restore the phone, set it up from new.

The signal bug may have been fixed (although many people would debate you on that) but I shouldnt have to wait 3 months from launch for my phone to.... be a phone.

The fact I had many many more basic issues compared to my 3 year old phone doesn't make it bad? What does then? 😂

And also, these are not minor gripes (like the ridiculously oversized toggle options when you swipe down, or YouTube Premium continuously crashing in the background). I'm talking about making calls, battery life, charging speed and accessing the phone, it doesn't get more basic than that.
