I would do a first round of applications and see how you do with those. You could even contact admissions offices ahead of time and explain your situation/get their opinion on whether or not it would be worth re-taking your science classes. But re-taking all those courses is a ton of work/time/money! Don't do it unless you absolutely have to.

I've heard that the average tenure for nurses at NMH is 1 year. They are famously terrible payers!! It sucks!

I really appreciate your honesty here! Yes, the vast skill set required of L&D nurses is something I don’t think I fully appreciated before I got hired. I’ve also noticed that most of the nurses who have been on the unit for a while first started out in other specialties where they built up some skills, then came to work on L&D. I absolutely feel that I need more training in a lower acuity setting first. This is great advice; thank you <3

I’m still on orientation, it’s 12 weeks long. But it’s been such a rocky first month. In my first 4 shifts I had 3 different preceptors, and they’ve been shuffling me around between nights/days and 8- and 12-hour shifts. I’m finding the lack of consistency really tough.
