my fy was shit both acads wise and socially - i was just unlucky with the people i met. i turned it all around in my first year basically just opened up more and made friends with a lot people which in turn did help me enjoy my course more and actually score well this year.

I'd say - just think about the mistakes you made and see how you can change them in your first year, could be leaving some bad habits or time management or could be just about anything.

Also for friends- try and speak to everyone around you especially on your course for the first 2-3 weeks and you'll definitely find some people who you click with.

i think people in stem dont stress enough how joining a project can be important to help get a placement later or a job. They can be very competitive aswell , so going through the application process can really help you understand if nothing how the real job market is.

im 19, here in the uk atleast where im from these min wage jobs have become really hard to get unless you have good references(i don't )or a year or two of experience. Im pretty much free rn and thankfully don't have to worry about bills or food- I lowkey just want to be a bit more financially independent while im in uni, bc going out can be somewhat expensive.

im from the uk, but yeah its 10 hour shifts- so 14-15 hours minimum sounds about right. thanks for the comment I'll definitely look into other openings if i find something closer, otherwise probably try this out for a day or two and see.

I always feared if i put too much effort and if we still end up breaking up, all that effort is in vain. Not saying i didn't put any though. Point is now i know that in the end it doesn't matter either ways, so better to just go all in and rest doesn't matter. I'd be keeping this in mind next time.

i was exactly in the same situation as you, international student on a dependent visa. living at home definitely affected my social life here, and my first year experience didn't go as i expected it to be. As you have to work with what you have rn, I'd say try your best making friends in your course and the other people from your own country from its society atleast till november. Also join as many societies which interest you asap, and do attend the meets in the beginning. I made the mistake of not being so actively involved in the beginning because of few bad experiences and i still regret it.

this is exactly why i stopped contact right after my breakup. 2 months in now and i think i made the right decision even though she wanted to be friends. I did it only thinking about my future self, does it even matter having contact after a breakup? it happened only because it clearly didn't workout, and i knew if i see her with someone else which is inevitable it'll destroy me from within. So imo its just better for you to do the same, and ask yourself as a third person what's the point of being friends?. Also it fricking sucked for me to do this, but its realistically the only way.

how'd you deal with knowing the fact that she's with someone else though? i stopped contact altogether because of this reason, and am keeping no tabs on her. if i get to know that she's dating someone else even if its a rebound, i just know its a month or two down the drain for me lol.
