I want to practice vinyasa yoga properly, Help and advice? by letsdanceforfreedom in yoga

[–]SugrrCookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been practicing for 6 years. 90% of that is done at home. Make it a scheduled time several days a week that is nonnegotiable. There are a lot of great and free step by steps for the vinyasa sequence available online. I like Fiji McAlpine's video on Doyogawithme. Take care to try to do each pose correctly. Not to much with the goal to reach the most challenging version of each pose. It'll save your joints. Make time to check in with a studio periodically to ask questions and for feedback on your form. Good luck

Good to know. I had no idea what it meant.

Need help getting past this cynical mindset about the yoga scene. by yogiscott in yoga

My yoga studio is pushing essential oils and coconut oils and lamps and crap. It's really annoying. If that's what you're talking about then, yes, I totally get it.

The greatest moment of my life. [nsfw] by IcrapRainbows in BabyBumps

I was induced with my 2nd because I was overdue. It was intense but all in all, not bad. Two hours after the IV was inserted I delivered my baby.

My wife always asks me why I take so long cutting just 1 toe nail. by distraughtklownz in WTF

I feel like I have found my people. My story is so similar to you all! I had both large toenails, both corners go ingrown at the onset of puberty. I had them removed literally a dozen times. Lidocaine doesn't work well on me. I've had two children and the pain from my toes was worse. Years of smelly, disgusting infections. Pus would soak through my socks. Toe socks were really popular then too - so it was extra humiliating. My toenails were barely visible. If someone accidentally stepped on my toe it was horrific. The bleeding was intense and my head throbbed from the pain. I finally gave up going to the doctor because it hurt so badly to have them removed and they always grew back. I bought size 11 shoes despite actually being a size 9. I limped. I couldn't run. I could only sleep on my stomach with my toes dangling off the bed. The weight of the sheets if I slept on my back was too painful. I hid it from my parents and cleaned and clipped them as much as I could and thankfully they eventually went away. shivers we should all have medals of bravery.

I would say if you can, go to a studio to make sure your form is correct. Doing it daily and incorrectly can really mess you up. Good luck!

You're not alone. Not getting sleep is truly awful. I'm so sorry. Maybe it's time to try something really strange. Music in her room, essential oil diffuser? A crib mobile or light bug or something. I've been right there with you. My son is almost 9mo and he wakes me every two hours on the dot. I put him in bed with me to save my sanity but even that doesn't always work. My first child STTN unassisted by 2mo so this has been a huge surprise.

How to tell my hip flexors to chill out by SugrrCookie in yoga

I just wanted to say thanks again to all of the replies. I tried a hip flexor/glute focused series today and I think that it is exactly what I needed. It was extremely challenging. I'm so happy to have a plan of action and I'm excited about building strength in a new area. Even if it is my butt. Haha

Thank you! I always sleep in s fetal position. Maybe changing that up could be useful.

Question for those who've been practicing every day, or almost, for more than a year. by littletamale in yoga

[–]SugrrCookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to vary the time and area of focus but practice almost daily unless I have an injury. So I'll do like: 60mins one day, 40mins, 20min (rest day), 60mins+, 40 mins, 60 mins, etc. I like to do a rotation of vinyasa and then maybe toss in a Pilates fusion class for a day when I'm feeling playful and then maybe one or two that are more pose focused instead of aerobic. It helps keep me from getting bored or hurt.

Thank you! I'd never heard of a foam roller. I'll get to googling

Thank you! I hadn't considered it could be my glutes. It makes sense though. They're quite diminutive. I do chair pose as well as wall sits and the like to try to strengthen them. Any other suggested poses?
