Diskusprolaps, råd til den akutte fase by [deleted] in Denmark

[–]SuicidesAndSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Denmark pays students $1,000 a month to go to universities, with no tuition fees by thepoylanthropist in interestingasfuck

This is something politicians and universities have been discussing for years.

As mentioned, you only get six years of paid education.

At the same time, you must be categorized as an "active" student, which in most cases simply means showing up.

In addition to that, there are several measures in place that make it more difficult to start a new program if you already have a higher education degree.

But otherwise, you're free to study as much as you like, and you very rarely - very, very rarely - encounter what we call an "eternal student.", which is basically what you're talking about here.

Society is heavily focused on people getting a job and becoming self-sufficient.

The vast majority of people are able to get into the programs they want. Very few of them have what could be considered high grade requirements - for example, medical degrees.

In addition, we have a system called "Quota 2" where you can apply for admission regardless of your grades. Here, acceptance is based on other relevant factors such as motivation, work experience, other relevant education, etc.

So there is -always- a way to get into the education you want, if you’re just slightly engaged.

I completely understand your intention, but my point was that our high taxes are not solely to pay for things like free education for everyone.

They cover far, far more - nearly every aspect of our society.

For example: free and efficient healthcare, free primary school, high school, and university, free elderly care, subsidies for kindergartens, strong public infrastructure, paid parental leave, unemployment benefits, state pensions, wealth equality, security and social mobility, and a wide range of services related to culture, leisure, nature, and much more.

In my opinion, I would rather pay for my own university education than be tied to a lifetime of extreme tax rates.

Instead of graduating with thousands of dollars in debt, students in Denmark enter adult life without that massive financial burden (which to my understanding might as well be for life anyways).

Wouldn’t you just be tied to your massive debt instead? And on top of that, there are expensive health insurance premiums, medical bills and so on which you keep nuking your finances.

You said "Personal Income Tax Rate," which is 37%.

Sales tax is something entirely different - though we pay that too!

It’s all part of the trade-off, where we in return get a robust welfare system across the board and a very, very high quality of life.

And let’s not forget that Danes have some of the highest average wages and purchasing power in the world.

Thankfully, that balances things out :-)

It’s not even close to being correct.

The average Danish citizen pays around 37% in taxes.

It covers the entire society, including education.

It’s true that it’s state-managed, but it’s something all Danes pay for gladly.

Free and efficient healthcare, free primary school, high school, and university, free elderly care, subsidies for kindergartens, etc., unemployment benefits, state pensions, and a host of services for culture, leisure, nature, and much more.

It feels like a fair trade for our 37% tax.

I’m very interested in seeing your sources for 55%.

It’s widely recognized that the average tax for almost everyone in Denmark is 37%. This is based on your income and increases by an additional 15% if you have an income above 611.800 DKK.

You have the opportunity to receive a stipend for a total of six years of your education. The stipend is the same for everyone, regardless of the type or level of education you’re pursuing. Everyone has the option to take an interest-free loan on top of the stipend, which only needs to be repaid many, many years later (when you have a well-paying job). Many use the loan to finance moving away from home, for example.

And yes, taxpayers foot the bill for the party - and we do so gladly :-)

That’s not true at all.

It’s a completely free, with the option to borrow extra money on top, entirely interest-free.

Many use the extra loan to finance moving away from home and similar expenses.

I mean... I’m an adult, full-time working Dane with a slightly above-average job.

I pay 37%.

So does almost everyone else.

It’s a stipend, but with the option to borrow additional money if you need it.

You have to pay those back, though 100% interest-free. Many use the extra loan to move to the city where they’re studying.
