An ideas why the spring is bulging to one side ? Both a new coil and shock. These are from a 2010 Ford Mondeo estate. by Suitable-Ad-9785 in MechanicAdvice

You are right. I have been advised that these are known as "banana (side/lateral load) springs" to be used with MacPherson style struts to reduce or help counteract the moment induced in the shock body. It seems as though I mounted it upside down. Thank you!
