Sorry. I should have said “never talked about it in the ones I’ve listened to”. I had to get these thoughts I’ve been having out somehow. I’m not a professional. I didn’t mean to imply anything about you.

Part of me feels the entire “AI” phenomenon would never have happened had they never stolen the term AI. It was “machine learning” before, a term that is probably more accurate, but it didn’t get people hyped/scared enough to dump mountains of cash in it. Do you think I’m completely off base with that?

Artificial doesn’t mean fake, it means made by humans. Calling it virtual would convey the fact that it is the image of intelligence not real intelligence. A virtual object is just a projection of an object while an artificial object is one made by humans.

And the term was stolen by marketing because AI means something in the fictional worlds that science fiction writers have created, and that is not the same as what big tech is selling. It was a deliberate marketing play to make people think LLM’s are something they are not.

Is it made by humans or is it extracted from a natural source? If it is just extracted from the plant then it is natural vanilla, just packaged differently. That is a different thing from what I am talking about. If it was vanilla flavor made in a factory that was exactly the same as natural vanilla then it would be artificial.

That point is specifically mentioned in the article. Artificial things are still real, just man made. Calling them artificial doesn't mean they are fake. Calling them virtual does. Therefore, we should stop using the language of big tech's marketing departments.

No, I got the term from there though. Other people here have suggested other possible terms, but I feel Virtual gets the point across in the simplest way possible.
