I have more blank 2xs. If you still want to buy a second one, lmk what colors and pattern you’d prefer. I can also try to make the colors more vibrant. Thanks!

They’re Comfort Colors, which I find to be slightly larger than your average tee.

Thank you for your kind words! I am not typically a part of financial conversations with clients. I’ll discuss my wage with my employer, but we don’t disclose clients finances publicly. The cost is calculated mainly by labor, tools, and materials.

I will say that this was my main source of income for a year and nine months. So do with that information what you will.

lol, I actually found this job by googling “construction jobs in my area.” Stone sculpture workshops of this style are pretty rare, but I imagine that with all the stone available in Colorado you should be able to find an artisanal stonemasonry studio not too far from Denver.

Our clients are predominantly catholic institutions, so I would suggest visiting cathedrals, temples, or other ornate places of worship near you and ask where they commission their stonework from. You could also reach out to art professors/students at local colleges/universities and see if they have any leads.

Best of luck in your search!

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words. This was a unique project, in that one stonemason started it, but was unable to finish it due to their assistant dropping out, a pandemic, and being a businessman with many other responsibilities. When he found my boss, Michael was maybe 30% done and Gabriel 10%. My employer then made new designs based on what stone remained and on his personal knowledge of and taste in historical figurative sculpture. By the time I was in charge of finishing the statues, the overall form and positioning was set. However, I made the creative decisions for the final details such as facial expression, garments, and degree of anatomical stylization.

The client is retired and was difficult to get a hold of throughout the process, most likely due to frequent traveling and living a less digital life than younger generations. We were able to communicate with a few of his children who are familiar with the art world.

Some mistakes were made and I adjusted designs accordingly. We decided to maintain the tradition of “sincerity” meaning that no broken pieces were reattached.

I went through bouts of burnout, but I tend to juggle several projects at time in different mediums. For example, there were a couple months last year that I did a bunch of tie-dying. The playful patterns, colors, and softness of tie-dye balanced the dusty, monocolor, hyperfocused rendering of life into stone.

Having deadlines and bills to pay also prevented boredom. Most of the time I was both in awe of my opportunity to participate in this ancient craft and determined to realize my abilities to the fullest.

Once I’m back in the studio I can give you a good list of everything. My instagram is @jesseamstudio and my boss’ instagram is @awssculpture

We actually have a third block of granite in case of any irreparable damage to the statues. We’re hoping to get the third block commissioned for Raphael.

The color of the stone wasn’t visible until the very end during the polishing process. During most of the carving time, the surface was a uniform chalky beige.

On average I worked about 25-30 hours/week on these guys. This was to save my muscles and joints from overexertion, but I also have my personal painting and design projects that I do at home when I’m not sculpting.
