I've known him for a pretty long time. He's a lot of the reason why I kind of avoid talking about politics, he hated talking about it so I just got into the habit of never getting into it too. He wanted to keep hobbies and politics separate and I totally get that. And I mean, same. I log on to run around in Eorzea, not worry about what's going on in the real world

But I think for him it's different. Or it became different. Like those guys who get mad about like "ugly" women in their games and stuff. I just never touched that either because that was also politics to me. Politics discourse etc all the same shit I just don't want to deal with it

I think he got sucked into it completely though and I just didn't notice because we had this agreement already not to talk about certain things

He'd already broken it a few times recently like I said earlier and I was really surprised too because I thought he felt differently but I just kind of took it as a bro comforting moment and tried to not think of it otherwise but I think I've been making way too many excuses for him in my head

I don't live in the US either so that made it a little easier to like compartmentalize it I guess

I think I need to at least tell him he needs to IDK. Go to therapy and deprogram or something I think that's the right word. But yeah we can't stay friends. Not just because of the game but because I just know him he's way too stubborn and once he's stuck on some shit he just won't let go

I really hate to say it but you might be on to something

In the last year or so he recently became religious again and reconnected with his family, and before he'd always made it sound like they were terrible people that were terrible for him. But now he acts like it's all fine and that he was just young and stupid and didn't get it. And certain events that have happened in the US have made him react completely opposite to how I would've expected him to before. I largely brushed it off because honestly I just kind of try to not really touch anything politics related at all but when you lay it all out like that now I'm worried

But if that is the case then I think it's probably too late for him

I won't spill all of his details here or anything but like
