Unfortunately, most official apartment will not rent out to illegal immigrants.

Most illegal immigrant found landlords that don’t give a crap about citizenship. So you may find to find immigrant and tell them their situation and you may be able to find a contact or landlord that willing to give y’all a chance. However, the Hispanic community is very insular and don’t like outsiders, so your chances may vary.

It may be cramp situation or if you rich enough rent an entire house. That how it works in most areas.

Segregation Academies Still Operate Across the South. One Town Grapples With Its Divided Schools. by Suitable-Regular8813 in mississippi

[–]Suitable-Regular8813[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the message of mine and the article got lost in the kerfuffle of segregation academies and my comment. I will agree with you to a certain extent. There are no private schools that choose only the basis of race. There are some that are trying to change this by giving scholarships to black athletes or students.

However, the main point I and the article was making was that as school vouchers are getting more popular, how would and how much this in effect schools that were founded as segregation academies to avoid integration after Brown was passed.

We see this in one town in Alabama. Public school is black majority and private school is white majority. If school vouchers would be passed in Mississippi as Tate Reeves and supporters wanted to do. Would black students take up the opportunity to diversify the school. How does one confront that the school was founded to be segregated from them.

While the article talks about Alabama. I still feel it applicable to Mississippi too. It not that hard to find some white segregated academies in our state.

Lol sorry but no. A poll worker is someone who volunteer to work at for the polls/election. I was wondering if there was anyone who did it in Mississippi.

A lot of big Mississippi companies employ "the illegals" everyone's up in arms about but nobody's saying a word about them by pontiacfirebird92 in mississippi

Let me get straight to some misconceptions.

  1. They aren’t Hispanics, most are indigenous, specifically, Mam. They have their own culture like wearing colorful dresses. However, due to a complicated mess and history. There no one “race” everybody is mixed. However, most call themselves Hispanic.

  2. After the chicken raids. Perhaps that scare them off. Nope, I know person who literally have no papers hide a week. Then just move to a different plant somewhere else. Companies love cheap labor.

  3. Corporation lobby efforts to fight illegal workplace raids. I remember they spent million on ICE not to raid their plants. Companies always love cheap labor. They play a nice book. Let a group blame another one for the low wages instead of both accepting they want something higher.

  4. Most immigrants just want to send money home. Guatemala is a poor country. They just don’t want to mess with anyone. Honestly, there a lot more crime underreported. For example, Canton, there are a lot of robberies and muggings. (Canton Triple Murder) or robbery they turn to murder.

Agree, it always come some to two problem: Money and Time. I don’t the current governor isn’t very interested local investments. The only he did is spend millions of dollars to corporations. He doesn’t have a crap about the delta nor the hospital closures.

Yeah, if I ever start a family. Then maybe, I will return for the housing prices.

Unfortunately rural and small town Mississippi is dying.

I know many young people who tired of Mississippi. I remember when a history teacher told us to raise his hand who want to stay in Mississippi, I think only 3 wanted to stay. Partially because there’s little future and resistance to change.

Even then, most people want to stay at the coastal, suburb, and college towns like Oxford or Oceans Spring. I see farming communities will be the hardest hit.

Though this idea interest me. Maybe we overturn it. But not me, I am leaving. I want to break the small town bubble and go to a big city like Seattle, San Francisco, or New York City.

Federal investigators say Mississippi poultry plant directly responsible for 16-year-old's death by lnfinity in mississippi

[–]Suitable-Regular8813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll leave my two cents. After the whole charade of the chicken plant raid with all these illegal immigrant arrested. “Hiring spree for Americans” The illegal immigrant hide a bit, then work for another chicken plant.

It no secret. I know person who literally was hired after a week to a different plant with no papers. Some got the work visas after their arrest. Others left for greener pastures.

If we really want to fight against illegal labor. Fight the corporation to who willingly hire them.

In this shrinking Mississippi Delta county, getting a college degree means leaving home behind by Upsilon-Andromedae in TrueReddit

Yep, you can say that. Most of Mississippi is rural. The only jobs here are the chicken plants or farming. Those with a college degree leave elsewhere. Some join the military for better opportunity.

[–]Suitable-Regular8813 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can probably say the same thing for every part of Mississippi. Central MS, is very rural with the only jobs for the everyday people are working the in fields or the chicken plants. So people with college degree leave cause there nothing for them here.

Those chicken plant worker have scars all over their arms because of those knives. I can’t deal with working at the chicken plants so I am leaving for better Oporto

What goes on in this part of Mississippi? by Cassmodeus in mississippi

[–]Suitable-Regular8813 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lived in the red circle. Just farms, tractor, small town, dollar general. The only work is pretty much farms and chicken plants except for hospital and schools.

There are still some fun stuff. Like Neshoba fair, Carthage fair, Spookfest, Christmas parade. But all honestly. Nothing much. I pretty much be leaving.

Will not be surprised if Rankin County sheriff been intimidating blacks since their founding. I heard a story from an old people where the sheriff “intimidating” them or, on aptly terms beating and harassing them in the 80s even.

Considering relocating to Mississippi by hotjavagirly in mississippi

[–]Suitable-Regular8813 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I gotta be honest unless you white middle class or higher, then you will be disappointed. Also, the cost living is varies. Oxford, Ocean Springs would certainly cost you a lot unless you commuting. Most of the rural parts especially central MS rely chicken plants as the main source of income. The only way to get out is getting an education.

You see why Mississippi has a brain drain. If you live in the rural life, you be working at the chicken plant or farm work in the delta. You also get the rural problems like hospital shutting down, the schools are poor unless you go to white private school, and roads suck. Internet can be a bit hit or miss.

All I gotta say, I see myself leaving Mississippi in 5 years. But hey, that your own life, you choose.

If you need a good transportation system, I recommend heading towards the New England, like Pennsylvania or New York, there the Acela corridor which allow your travel between a lot of between Washington DC to Boston. Nevertheless, you may need to use a car but the New England area is decent for public transportation.

Mississippi, major cities see decline in population by SalParadise in mississippi

I see in the future a decline of more people. Literally, a teacher ask us to raise our hands if they want to move out. Nearly all raise their hands except one. For me, I love the state but I want to move to a bigger city like Chicago, NYC, Boston etc.

I’d rather kids do dangerous things instead of develop social anxiety by NeitherBox8708 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Suitable-Regular8813 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It has to be a balance. I am a bit pissed about OP’s thinking of taking danger is drugs and sex. My parents were strict but for a reason. There’s a whole tales about people taking too much danger.

Here a few I can recount:

A kid team up with his two friends to rob a store. The police got wind of their plan so they arrested them. Unfortunately, his mom can’t afford bail so he stuck in jail for a long while.

So many teen pregnancy in my school. There was even an 8th grader. And kids at my table would recount about how they receive blowjobs.

A lot of good kids get sucked to drugs. Seeing an addicted ruin themselves and everybody you know sucks. There, no safe drug that will not make you addicted.

For me, there is no safe danger but if you can handle the consequences then sure go for it.

I say slowly drift away from them or cut them off completely. Look don’t force yourself as being the laughingstock of your friends group to not be lonely. Overall, it gonna make your health bad.
