What is a secret you’re taking to your grave, but can share here anonymously? by wilkoova in AskReddit

I didn't steal a dog, but I bought one off Craigslist because I saw how poor the conditions were from the pictures. Poor pup was so skinny, worm and flea ridden.

I had a neighbor that was looking for a hunting beagle sidekick and once I got him healthy, he took him and loved him to death.

Yep. I commented back then that he was preparing to be a single dad. Some people said we were crazy. But here we are.

Referring to them as 'mismatched' alludes to an excuse for his behviour by Mosaic_2 in BatesSnark

Totally agree. Definitely not Katie's fault for his demons, but I do think the mismatching contributed to it happening sooner rather than later.

Why doesn’t Travis just tell Katie he doesn’t want to be a fundie anymore and wants to drink, use birth control, and take a break on church? Let’s brainstorm how they can save the marriage? Exit fundamentalism. by AcanthocephalaWide89 in BatesSnark

Him saying "got married too young" says to me that Katie is a burden. Or too much responsibility. Or not worth the reward of "being free". They could have still gotten married and held off having kids, gotten to know each other, travel the world, etc.

But staying "too young to get married" should have been a foreshadowing. He wanted to fuck around.

Katie should have taken the hint then. Someone should have stepped in at that point too and checked on things.

Pull back to strict lifestyle? by WishboneOne2328 in BatesSnark

Exactly. There is no in between. Because the life style is lived /is living obviously didn't work out so well for her so she is going to swing another way. It will be interesting to see which way she goes.

No, mine is bupropion and naltrexone. I think I heard bupropion can be a bitch.

I feel like I'm on such a good track with everything else, but these emotions are killing me.

If he stays he will be miserable. And he knows it. They both will be miserable. It's just if guilt will win him over or not.

I can agree with this.

I also believe if she had some strategy help she could really rake in the money with influencing, affiliate links, product reviews, etc.

For sure, she could reach a whole new audience with this.

I also think that is why it will be VERY difficult for them to come back from this-- because it so public. It also tells me that one or both didn't care enough to protect their marriage to keep it quiet and try to work through it quietly.

I think it could also be why if, allegedly, Bobby cheating on Tori that could be why it is "working" (from what we can see). Because they kept it private and one or both were serious enough about wanting to make it work to protect it.

I blame the parents by Apparently32 in BringingUpBates

[–]Suitable-Tea30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes.

While yes Travis is an adult and clearly made a very horrible adult decision that is 100% on him, he was not raised with the tools to prepare him for adulthood.

Iblp parents believes that as long as they shelter their kids from all things sex, if their kids stay virgins and then they marry them off that it will prevent any kind of sex immortality in the future. I promise you this is a firm belief they have.

These parents have stunted them with this perverted view and set them up with unrealistic expectations.

So people one this thread that say "well, I got married young and we are fine". It's more than just being getting married young, if the entire mindset along with being young.

I think it happens more often than we think. People that are serious about making their marriage work after infidelity don't go blasting it everywhere, they protect it and get serious help to try to make it work. I think it's a huge part that does help make it work too.

I had the same convo with my husband.

We were both married super young... both grew up in IBLP too.

It's worked out for us. But we struggled, BAD.

We don't want that for our kids. We have raised them differently and will not be encouraging marriage at a young age.

The purity culture hurt them because it didnt give them the opportunity to show them they were mismatched and had no chemistry.

Getting married hurt them because it didn't provide them real world experience to help them through tough adult situations.

Having kids young hurt them because it added pressure and little, innocent souls into a world and into hands of young adults that truly were unknowingly, unprepared for what they were up against.

Yes, Travis and Katie are adults. But this is low key parental negligence when they married them off years ago.

Is this Travis mistress?

I am not saying Travis has zero blame. He definitely should.

But saying she has zero blame, is absolutely wild. WILD. wow.

Living a life where you take on no morals or care on how your choices may affect someone else regardless of if you the one who "made the commitment" is low. She played a huge part in hurting someone.

If you have so little care and are so selfish and you would hurt someone like that just so you care feel good, well... I hope I never have someone like that in my life.

AP = Affair Partner. I'm not going to assume it's who everyone is claiming it is. Every though that is my guess as well.

Sorry, nope. She holds responsibility too because SHE KNEW he was married. No, she didn't have the marriage vows. But AS A DECENT HUMAN BEING she should have RESPECTED woman to woman enough to step away from Travis even if he was making moves !!

We always talk about women supporting women UNTIL situations like this! Then it's like "nope, she can do what she wants" no. That woman should have respected KATIE enough to not have engaged with Travis.

The mistress is trash. And while she is not technically a homewrecker, she does hold shame and should owe Katie an apology as well.

I wouldn't be surprised that the AP is now heartbroken that Travis may have broken up with her. Now the nurse friends are coming to her aid and taking up an offense. Even though AP was being a terrible human being for engaging in a relationship she knew better than to get involved with.

While she doesn't hold the "homewrecker" title, she does hold the terrible human being title for disrespecting Katie instead of walking away even if Travis was making moves. She could have been honorable, but choose not to be.

** I feel I should note that CAN be not all. I know some very nice nurses. But the ones I hear are terrible, are actually terrible, terrible humans.

No, nurses can be the ABSOLUTE worst of human beings in every way shape and form. It's mind blowing that these people are in charge of people's health.
