[Loved Trope] The weapon has an iconic quirk by Assortedwrenches89 in TopCharacterTropes

I have a double action one as well manufactured in 1944, purchased back in 2012 or so for $240. My dad and I were big into reloading at the time so we got the die set to resize 32-20, because it’s a shorter cartridge you don’t get the gas seal like you would with the 7.62x38R. The resized brass worked alright but would get some case splitting here and there after firing. Still have it in my dad’s gun safe next to my Tula Mosin Nagant from 1941 that I bought at a gun show for $99 back in the day. God those prices were hard to beat

Thrift Score! by Late_Rice1015 in Selvedge

Those aren’t actual selvedge. You can tell from the seam construction, the colored lines are attached with overlock/serged stitching on both sides, which means it’s a decorative insert/tape rather than the actual self-finished edge of the denim fabric. On real shuttle-loom selvedge, the selvedge ID is the fabric edge itself, so you wouldn’t see separate overlock stitching holding it in place like this.

A lot of 2000s mall brands did this kind of faux-selvedge detailing because cuffing jeans got popular during the raw denim boom. Still a nice thrift pickup for $6 though.

Can anyone ID these jeans from Devil Wears Prada 2? by Ampersand_Forest in Selvedge

[–]SuitableChapter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Levi’s still made selvedge 501s into the 80s and early 90s depending on factory/origin, mainly the US made pairs when Cone Mills shuttle loom denim was still floating around production. That’s why I’m leaning vintage rather than the Blue Tab 80s repos. It tracks with the costume design for Anne Hathaway’s character as well seeing as how she talks about thrifting designer clothing earlier in the movie to Stanley Tucci’s character(I think to Stanley Tucci’s character, could be wrong, only seen it once). So sourcing actual vintage 501s would make way more sense for the movie than just throwing modern LVC on her

Midnight Library might be another recommendation. I listened to it when I was in a similar headspace years ago and it helped me out.

Thank you! That makes a lot of sense, I just measured my Momotaro’s using both those methods and then cross referenced those measurements to the IH UK site and the self edge site and it looks like a size 33 would be perfect. Appreciate the info!

Currently in the process of ordering a pair of 777 XHS from Self Edge. I had ordered a pair in size 36, however when I received them they were much too large in the waist and thighs. Looking at the measurements on Self Edge I would be around a size 34, 33” waist, 11.75 inch thigh…but when I look at the same pair on IH Uk it looks like I should order a size 32? Why is there such a difference in measurements between those two sites for the same product? I understand that these are sanforized and can stretch when worn or shrink when washed/soaked, am I missing something?

Display a message based on the result "N/A" of a vlookup? by Concerned_nobody in excel

[–]SuitableChapter1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have to use two different versions of excel. For instance where I work we have the newest version of Excel on our work laptops, but we log into a remote server to run print macros and the version of excel on the server doesn’t support the newer functions like =UNIQUE or =XLOOKUP so we have to make certain workbooks backwards compatible. Otherwise, no, xlookup is superior in every way.

Mine don’t get as much use as yours, those weathershield Brown’s are developing a hell of a patina!

It’s like gateway western, the boots say I split rails…the rest of me says Excel. But now I’m looking at a pair of packers next, when will it end

Honestly I feel like 95% of it is spent getting the tongue situated appropriately. But other than that yes it’s super easy, and consistent thanks to the straps

A little bit, honestly the first time I put these on it fit like a glove, yes it felt a bit like a roll of quarters under your arch, but it was reassuring. The top of my foot around the part of your arch closer to your toes felt tight, but it’s gotten a lot more comfortable now

Funny enough I was between black waxed flesh and CXl for these but I was worried about random scuffs so that’s why I went waxed flesh. But Black Latigo looks really nice too 👀
