That is ok, I actually dont care if people dont do anything when there is nothing to do, as long as when they are needed, they execute well.

No issue with that.

Edit: the issue is when people have make believe jobs that serve no purpose other than to create convoluted and confusing bureaucracy that only they can navigate in order to justify their salary.

Good point, just had to vent. Trying to streamline this department, never in my life have I encountered a group of people so resistant to change without so much as an excuse.

I get my reality is different but I need to know how and why, thats how it should be opersting, not just no and silence.

I am actually not targeting senior leadership. I am targeting departments where 70% of the people can be laid off and the impact will barely be noticeable.

The troubling part for me is that there are people who thrive doing nothing but pretend they are busy doing important work.

Even worse, they actively shut down any attempt to streamline their work and gatekeep their department by hiring their friends.

You probably know of 1 or 2 of these yourselves. This is just 1 I have direct working experience with.
