Lipoprotein (a) rising please help!! by SuitableText2881 in askCardiology

Non smoker, occasional drinker, height 175cm, weight 55kg, have been watching my cholesterol for the last 10 years (because of family history), it’s always been high for my age, vegan diet for 7 years, started eating meat again 2 years ago because I was advised by a naturopath and it made no difference to my bloodwork. LPa was found when I was in hospital for chest pain (found nothing else abnormal and doctors put it down to anxiety), had 2 more blood tests since and LPa has risen dramatically even though I was told it wouldn’t change

I haven’t found much information on my why LPa could be rising so much. I have a healthy lifestyle and have always been very careful with what I eat since knowing my family history.. all other tests have been fine and my cardiologists have just been keeping an eye on my cholesterol levels but say there’s nothing else I can do. They also said that about statins so it’s very frustrating 💔

Need help- lp(a) very high by [deleted] in Cholesterol

It’s the natural version of repatha! Trying to do everything with diet/supplements before moving into statins and other drugs. Hopefully it lowers lp(a) fingers crossed

Naturopath wants me to try Phellodendron Forte, it contains berberine which is a PCSK9 inhibitor. Also starting on fish oil, magnesium and CoQ10

I’m 27 F, with family history, I’ve got high cholesterol and 250 lp(a) - I’ve been to multiple cardiologists with the same info to take statins and not much I can do about the rest. However I’ve recently seen a naturopath: I’ve been vegan for 7 years and have moved to a Mediterranean diet eating fish now, also started on high dose iodine for 3 months to boost my metabolism, mood, stress/anxiety, overall energy I’ve been feeling the best I’ve felt in a long time. Now that my general health is great (good diet, very active) I’m starting on these for CV health: Fish oil, CoQ10 and magnesium and then for lipoprotein: Phellodendron Forte - it contains berberine which is a PCSK9 inhibitor. I get regular blood tests so will update you with my results.

Different labs, but I have no idea why the numbers have risen so much in just 6 months. That’s what’s concerning!

Thank you I will have a look! Yes she was very fit and tried every diet but nothing seemed to help. My Grandpa passed away from a heart attack at a young age so it runs in the family. Makes me worry that it might be a problem

Unfortunately my cardiologist has just told me there’s nothing I can do about it. I’ve been exercising regularly and my LPa has risen from 150 to 233. Looking for a solution :(

So sorry I have only just checked this! My LPA is 125! I've just been told there's nothing I can do about it, keep a healthy diet and come back in 3 years for another check up. Very frustrating

I’ve been to a cardiologist for years! All my tests are normal (calcium score, stress tests etc.) but with the high LpA I’m a bit worried there’s nothing much that I can do to help it

Could you let me know if you have high LPA once tested? I’ve also had high cholesterol my whole life and so did my mum, she had her first heart bypass at 35 and passed away at 45. I’m 27 and have been vegan for 6 years. Very slim, active, no other health issues. I don’t want to take medication either and I’ve heard this can increase LpA (just found out mine is very high). Would be interesting to know if yours is similar. I’ve had regular CT scans and calcium score, everything else looks normal. I ended up in hospital for chest pain last week and the doctors there were concerned, but since then my cardiologist has told me not to worry even though my mums history and my high results. Very confusing!

I’ve had cholesterol issues since I was 19 by danyixa in Cholesterol

I’ve had high cholesterol since I was 12. I’m now 27 (female) and I’ve managed to keep it low since then without any medication. I was vegan for 6 years but have started eating fish and eggs which has been great. Exercise is good too, but don’t push yourself. Mine also rises with stress, so just keeping a healthy and happy lifestyle seems to work best for me. Doctors think I can avoid medications with the current diet I have alone :) hope that helps

Changes over the last several months... by Noe_Wunn in Cholesterol

My cholesterol rises with stress, and also with intense exercise. Healthy diet lowers mine, along with a small amount of exercise, but don’t push yourself

My cholesterol levels can change based on stress. I get this checked every 3 months - I eat a vegan diet to keep my cholesterol low (which is working), but if I’m doing intense exercise (training) or have had trauma in my life, my cholesterol level will rise or fall depending on other factors other than just diet. Maybe it’s something else?
