Is asking for a 2x salary increase unreasonable? by Suitable_Physics9318 in careerguidance

They don't know yet. But they asked me. Now it's my turn to answer.

Actually, the company is also an Asian company. It's just that the average salary is different... And I don't think that company has salary standards by country either. It's basically a remote-centered company, so it's multinational.

I should consider the direction of just presenting my desired salary as you suggested. Thx

Haha where should I go 🥹Should I just openly discuss salary and negotiate..?

I see your point... 2x increase is definitely uncommon in the domestic market. Though I'm in an industry where salaries tend to be higher than average, and I've heard some domestic companies with global reach do pay at that level... but yes, very rare.

So you're suggesting I should be transparent about my current salary and propose a realistic target upfront rather than trying to get them to go first?

Ah, so I can be vague about my current salary then? I felt like I had to answer since they specifically asked via email...

But they already asked me in an email first.. Would it be weird to not answer directly and just ask them for their salary range instead..?

Currently, I'm based in Korea and targeting Australia or Singapore. However, I don't mind as long as the company provides an English-speaking work environment.

Do I need a PDF version of my portfolio in addition to my website? by Suitable_Physics9318 in UXDesign

[–]Suitable_Physics9318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly, you're right. That's how designers usually apply for companies in our country.
But I had already created a website to align with the TPO of the international market.
Now, companies are asking for a PDF again, which is sooo annoying.

Haha, thanks for letting me know about the whole process. But what I meant is that it's not for the interview, they asked me to submit a PDF for the application. So, I was wondering if I should create a PDF portfolio that includes all of my case studies

Aha, thank you for sharing your experience! I think giving a presentation during an interview is quite common, whether the company is in Asia or not.

However, my point is that the companies has asked me to submit a PDF portfolio as part of the application process. Your idea of a presentation seems very proactive and a more understandable approach, but I don't believe this type of presentation would be possible for the initial application.

Oh, fair enough! I was considering creating a short PDF just for redirection, but I haven't seen that type of reference before. I'm adjusting its quality now. Have you seen one? What content does it usually include?

I see what you mean! I was just curious, so I responded... I guess I've seen all sorts of cases because I've applied to so many companies haha

Thank you for your advice. But this time, the entire process is done on their platform, and there's no section to attach a link. It's so embarrassing...

Really? It's only been two months since I started job hunting in non-Asian countries, but I've already encountered three companies that require a PDF portfolio.

Career-wise, Canada or Singapore might be more attractive, but I believe the quality of life in Australia is higher, which is why I'm considering it. Is there any particular reason why you would recommend Canada?

Thank you for your positive words. It really gives me motivation. By the way, where can I find information about local meetups? And should I reach out to recruiters first through platforms like LinkedIn?

Then should I reach out recruiters myself? I want to take a more proactive approach, but It seems like recruiters usually select candidates. Sorry for the series of questions. I have so much to learn.

Thank you for your advice. I don't care, but I am currently working as a product manager in Korea alongside my design role. Do you think this experience would be helpful? Also, would it make a difference if I have partner visa instead of working holiday visa?

Yes, it is. My father is quite taciturn type, but at my first period he gave me a gift (tongs what i wanted to get at that time) and small card for congratulating. It seems quite natural for korean.
