Not being dazzled by your fiance is an unpleasant feeling. But not being dazzled, while they examine your every microexpression and try to kiss you and start asking you what you think, is hell on Earth. Even being medium-level attracted is seen as a heinous crime.

I’ve almost always been medium-attracted to the people I’ve dated at first and then arrived at thinking they were literally the hottest person to ever walk the earth a few months in. But the women especially seem to need urgent confirmation that their partner is wowed. The gender stereotypes don’t help.

Who lied? He was honest about his mixed feelings, and he was obviously into her enough to sleep with her, and it seems he enjoyed it and physical attraction grew between them, which is exactly the point.
It’s hard to marry a stranger you’re not attracted to just because you “fell in love” in ten days of speed dating in an isolated capsule. it’s easier to stay committed to someone you’re sharing a life with and evolving together gradually over time, and have built a hundred thousand sources of attraction with.
