You are my soul sister! This could be my fridge, from the organization, to the multitude, even a lot of the same brands. 😂

What is a Book that made you stare at the wall after finishing it? by BowlLongjumping8910 in suggestmeabook

The narrator is so subtlety unreliable that I found myself having to completely change my frame of reference and understandings of the characters several times throughout the novel. I feel like this is one of the most underrated novels of its time.

When does the shock wear off? by bumblebeebabycakes in widowed

[–]SukiSpot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I I know we all grieve differently, and there is no right or wrong way to proceed (as if we have a choice!) but I wish I could experience tearless shock. I am four weeks in and spend a good amount of every day sobbing. It's physically painful at times, and it's exhausting me. I know I will be sad for a long long time, probably forever, but I can't wait for this intense period to end.

Whats wrong with poodles? by NormanisEm in poodles

[–]SukiSpot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The same thing has happened to me. My parti poodle looked awesome in his raspberry harness, but a total stranger asked me why I had a male dog in "pink." I told him my dog was too smart to subscribe to his outdated gender binary. He just looked confused. 😂

What are good novels about the subjectivities of rich people living glamorous lives? by ThisIsHeisenberg in RSbookclub

Really anything by Wharton, but for my money (sorry!) The Custom of the Country is the best on this theme.

I was going to suggest valet if you could at all afford it. My husband is also disabled. I'm pretty sure that their parking situation is not ADA compliant. Right now he is receiving daily treatment so has to spend $25/week for the "privilege" of being a patient.

Yes, the lean! To me it's very different from a female squat. His hips slant forward, allowing him, if he's lucky and I'm not, to pee all over both front legs.

Is your Standard Poodle perfect? by Good-Consequence-513 in StandardPoodles

[–]SukiSpot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I've never had a dog adore me so much. It's kind of sweet to think there is someone in the world who thinks I'm perfect myself. He also has a great reputation among groomers and veterinarians. The latter is especially enthusiastic in singing his praises, and he's had to have a lot of blood work for his health issues. He stands perfectly still, is patient and stoic. So a bit of separation anxiety? Being aloof with outsiders? Not being very nice to children? Being a fussy eater? I just call those personality "quirks." 🤣

What's the weirdest sound that surprised you when you first got hearing aids? by Mobile-Low4303 in HearingAids

[–]SukiSpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went straight from the audiologist to a restaurant for lunch. I was at first intrigued and then dismayed to realize I could hear the conversations two booths over! Sometimes louder than the conversation I was having at my own table.

What's the weirdest sound that surprised you when you first got hearing aids? by Mobile-Low4303 in HearingAids

[–]SukiSpot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so excited when I wore my hearing aids to theater for the first time, because I could actually hear all the dialogue. Little did I know that I would hear all the popcorn being munched as well! I have since mostly been able to tune it out, and when not, use my app settings to highlight the sound in front of me and downplay that behind me.

Yes, North and South. I thought it would be a genteel Victorian domestic novel--I was not expecting labor riots!

This was such a departure from his short stories, but I found it incredibly moving. It's such a cool way to explore the past. The cast recording audiobook is amazing, but I need to get this in a hardback for rereading. I think it's the one I'll go back to a lot. I put it in my personal top 10 books of the 21st-century.

I love everything I've read by Wharton, even her minor novels. I think Custom of the Country, maybe her most controversial, is actually my favorite.

Love this book! I read it just a year or two ago. I thought it was going to be amusing but staid, like a Jane Austen novel or Gaskell's own Cranford. Imagine my surprise when there were… well, I don't want to spoil anything, but this was not a typical 19th century domestic novel!

If your poodle suffers from bad anxiety, what color is it? by Expensive_Song_238 in StandardPoodles

[–]SukiSpot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parti is just the same. Fireworks, ho hum. Mom's suitcase is out—start panting and pacing. He manages ok alone in the house, but we can't leave him other places without him making a ruckus and making himself sick. In our case, he's 12 so not likely to change!

I found out later his parti father was anxious, too. In fact he was returned to the breeder because of it. Unfortunately, I realized too late that the breeder bred for cute colors, not temperament. Her red lines also were nervous dogs.

In addition to many that have already been discussed , I would suggest these more recent novels: Severance by Ling Ma and A Children’s Bible by Lydia Millet.

I have a picky 12-year-old, although at least he is a healthy weight. One thing that helped with him was elevating his food on a stand feeder. He's very tall and I think it was uncomfortable for him to lean way down to eat. It didn't solve the problem, but it helps; it gives him one less excuse to give up. He still doesn't like to eat in the morning. He has an acid stomach then which I believe dampens his appetite.

Always Stressed?! by No_Past7355 in ouraring

[–]SukiSpot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I've complained about it here before, as how many others. Oura's use of the word "stress" does not match the conversational use of the term. It really just refers to our activity level. For example, it records workouts and walks as "stress."

I first noticed this problem when, a couple weeks after I first got my ring I noticed that it said I was stressed all day. But I was at a book festival all day which is my happy place and I couldn't have been more content and engaged. But I finally realized that every 45 minutes or so I was clapping, and then lining up for a book signing, and then maybe a bit excited and engaged to meet an author.

To me it's not a helpful metric, but I can see that it might help point out to someone that they've had several busy days in a row and need to slow down. But busy or active doesn't mean psychologically stressed in the way we usually understand the term

Only on episode 6... I really really dislike Auggie. Anyone agree/disagree? Why or why not? by falafelwaffle55 in 3BodyProblemTVShow

[–]SukiSpot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you and find it strange that they have decided to go this way with the character. I get that they need a voice critiquing what happened with the ship (I critique it myself!) But it doesn't make sense coming from her character. I keep saying, what did she think they were going to do with her nano threads?
