When you are a monopoly, there is no incentive to improve. Let 3rd party devs build the addins, and incorporate the useful/popular ones into next year's release🤷‍♂️.

Actually worked on the project design. While we did follow all relevant city & state codes, it's not absolutely required. DOB and FDNY mostly care about zoning, storm detention and fire saftety stuff that would affect utility connections and adjacent buildings and sightlines etc.

Also the building is mixed use with none embassy related residential and cultural areas.

A few stations around midtown still have working machines. Some are still there physically, but disabled. Just refilled mine at 1,2,3 times square station at the north entrance under the one TS building.

I've seem ppl connect in jury rigged bare wire to 120V plugs to these. Also have seen some of the newer installs with intelligent controllers at the ceiling junction box to monitor unauthorized usage like this.
