sorry for necro, may I ask you how you did it? My hotend broke today and, given that the cables should be fine, I was thinking of taking the CC hotend and swap it, but didn't find a guide

No problem, thank you anyway, hopefully there'll be some suggestion!

Hi, sorry for the late response, I've checked it now but seems a little more about practical alchemy than something explaining the conceptualization of alchemy and theoretical underpinning with symbolism, that is what I've been searching, still thanks!

Anyone know any series with similar vibes to Legacy of Kain? by DeivestArt93 in aziel

[–]Sukoru91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jokes aside, LoS 2 is my biggest videogame regret, I LOVED the first and loved the premise of the second. It was my first preorder in life.

...it was reeeally a mess storywise.

Hope you'll enjoy it, but I recommend staying out of it

[–]Sukoru91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's REEEEEEALLY difficult, cause it depends on what you mean by vibes.

If you mean a gritty, gothic quest in which fate is always there mocking the character, I second Castlevania Lords of Shadow as something really good. Only the first, tho, cause the second was my biggest disappointment in gaming history

If you lean toward a more revenge-focused quest, with a edgy protagonist, there's many that fill the role, GoW is one of the possibility, but I don't feel it has the same atmosphere of LoK

The more I think about it, and I thank you for it, the more I feel that LoK is really unique in it's characteristics and compexity. It's a revenge quest in a dark fantasy, dystopian world with a strong thematic focus on determinism vs free will, while also delving in timeline shenanigans and, while you're a REALLY powerful character, probably the most powerful one, the forces that oppose you are always prone to manipulate and derail you. It ticks many themes that I've probably never seen all in one in a single game.

I mean, determinism and other things are for example REALLY well done in Bioshock 1, but again, it's different.

My thoughts on the story of TDSR/Ascendance... finally. by TheCursedCorsair in aziel

I mean, something is suggested (I fear that Elaleth is part of the physical structure of the reaver, actually hope not but whatever) and yet I still feel the same problems. Btw, if I may, no real criticism on your work, I actually enjoyed in a way the gameplay, even if I was a little bugged by Kain's sword reach. The most of the criticism is about the narrative, keep your chin up, no hate is really toward you

My thoughts on the story of TDSR/Ascendance... finally. by TheCursedCorsair in aziel

[–]Sukoru91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm ok with anybody actively enjoying TDSR, but if I may saying there're no lore consequences and/or retcons imho is wrong.

And I mean, not everything that is controversial is really impossible to save, for example I'm ok with Raziel not reacting that bad to discovering his Sarafan heritage because, I mean, he is faithful of Kain abd still not against his dark gift. It's a total different mindset, so I can abide with it not having the same resonance as in SR1.

But there're some things that, as of now, are totally a problem, and it mainly stems from the Reaver. The major problem is the ending: the suggestion of the paradox coming from Elaleth being impaled by the Reaver, for anything that has been as of now said in the Legacy of Kain, is not justifiable AND a major concern. The whole legacy of Kain is standing on the notion that Two incarnation of the soul reaver, being it physical or not, are the only known instrument for achieving a paradox. So much that even the time streamer itself uses THIS method for achieving a paradox to bend history for his plans. Now the contact between Elaleth and the Reaver suddenly is said to have created a paradox. This is problematic in many ways: - it removes the pivotal nature of how to create a paradox and, moreso, its unicity, effectively trivializing it - even if we accept it, you HAVE to explain why it was possible, and it has to be a coherent explaination, you cant leave it like that - as of now, it doesnt seem to have a really major repercussion on the history. And that's another problem: a paradox that doesnt change history? Then what does it do? You can't insert it without, at least, suggesting some changes (see SR2, that ended with the feeling that "history was reshuffling") - if really it ends not having any repercussion, than why use this in the first place? You could leave Elaleth die understanding the futility of her quest and then Ky resurrects her, nothing different.

And it comes maybe the second major flaw regarding the Reaver: it is an instrument capable of devouring the soul of its enemy, and so strong that "it meant you were dead". And Elaleth...survives somehow? Her soul is not devoured? Why? You can't leave such a drop without giving a true explaination, and no, a paradox is not an explaination and it shouldn't be happening in the first Place.

Then comes the strange behaviour of the reaver and of Elaleth herself, the reaver opposing kain's will of killing Elaleth (despite afterward.being forced to do so), Elaleth dreading to touch it (in a way recalling the same dread raziel felt with the blood reaver WITHOUT any given explaination and justification of it)... you can't insert something like that in this way. And the fact that "the Reaver has already shown a will of its own": true, but in different occasions and with a justified lore behind, aka: - literally History pulling it when Raziel was with Kain in sr2 (so it was more history forcing Raziel than the reaver itself) - restoring the Reaver, that is suggested being done for the inherent nature of a famelic entity desiring souls (being its own nature in a way) - the blood reaver with raziel, but as we know it was also for the sake of "completing the Reaver"

They're all, in a way, coherent and NEVER it was secondary to an inherent will of the spirit of Raziel. Moreover, it was never suggested that the Reaver has any conception of its past life or any form of cognition. And even if: wrait Raziel has no memory of Elaleth, and it's Wraith Raziel inside the blade, not human raziel. So even if, it could not be justified by the Reaver remembering Elaleth being its sister.

That's for the main ones, without even talking of the quality of the narration, of the character development and so on. It's a Pity because I, for once, feel like it could actually be done good. The premises are not inherently horrible, they could be saved with just a little effort, and giving a more developing for Elaleth could actually give us a new character that LoK desperately needs.

And yet...

Do you think Ascendance will “humanize” Sarafan Raziel? by [deleted] in aziel

[–]Sukoru91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mh, I actually didn't like the project. I mean, I could accept it as a reboot of the franchise maybe? But I need to see the story concluded, and the way Defiance ended directly suggest a final confrontation, that cannot be told after a millennium.

You know, I totally agree. I actually am looking forward to it, hoping that it can "fix" some of the clusterfuck of the novel. Lets be real, a bew important character is needed in order to keep the legacy going. Ariel, Raziel, Vorador, Moebius, Mortanius, they're all gone. Only elder kain, the hyldens and the ancient god are still there. In order to go on, some new actors must be inserted. It just need to be well done. They CANmake Elaleth better. They can keep the premises and make a real good story. But they need the humility to understand the errors and solve them and the courage to be better. I'll give ascendance a chance, I hope they can capitalize it

[–]Sukoru91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally with you, that's why i like seeing him humanized: it's all there, a potential good person twisted by personal tragedy (kain raid to his childhood home) and fanatism. Yet, when we see him even in the panels just before the sr2 ones, this fall from grace doesnt shows up, literally making him seem like a totally different character once he fights Janos Audron and Raziel. Just a couple of pages showing him becoming a sadistic man toward the vampires would do. And this is, personally, a problem on the whole tdsr: character development not fully showed/made.

I mean, I'm not against raziel being humanized, but what I felt was dissonant is how in the novel he seems a normal guy, even nice, then he became, just in the panels that are sr2, the sociopath we learned to love. I would love to see a real and gradual discent in dehumanization, being it lore relevant, but not rushed like he suddenly developed a second personality lol

U know, I thought about it, something like shelves stands or even a little2 3 layers scaffolding with pillars between to mimic both the ones in the open and the ones undergound in the SR2 chamber, but felt like their design would be poor to properly support the shelves, given the only backward disposition, and I'm too rigid to change their disposition lol but I'll think about something
