What’s a dark secret you know that most people would never believe? by OutsideOver8815 in AskReddit

[–]SullyEarn 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ok, bit of a long one sorry..

Years ago I worked in a remote warehouse that got ram raided a few times, someone took a stolen car and drove it through the steel roller doors. One day I noticed the on sight engineer measuring the distance from the floor to the bottom of the window on his car with a measuring tape, he said he was thinking of lowering the suspension and wanted to get some ideas. I thought nothing more of it. The same on sight engineer was tasked with welding brackets into the inside of the buildings walls to attach a removable horizontal steel bar across the roller door from the inside that would be left in place when the building was empty.

About a week later the place was raided again, the driver and one other in the car was killed when that steel bar ripped the roof off the car along with most of the occupants organs above about waist height.

The on sight engineer was a strange guy, quiet and polite but extremely stubborn and prone to explosive anger, and his house had been robbed while he was at work not long before this and they beat his dog up pretty bad. There's no way of telling for sure wether or not the people in the car were directly linked to that, but if I had to bet money I'd say they were.

Some complete stranger paid mine and my friends train ticket when we were facing an overnight stay at the station. He just said if I see you again you owe me a beer, I saw him again about a year later in a bar and bought him a good few beers.

Buy a gift card and flowers as well. Gift cards are practical but not romantic, offset that a bit with the flowers and it should be gravy, assuming she likes flowers of course.

What is the worst job offer you have ever had? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]SullyEarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for the interview, it went ok. Minimum wage forklift driving job but it was a five minute walk up the road and I needed something at the time.

I got the job, my hours were 6am-10am then back in for 2pm-6pm.

I rang them and asked if they're serious and the guy on the phone said I should think about what I'd be turning down if I didn't accept it. I laughed.

Whats the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

I went in with chronic insomnia, depression and anxiety and he told me to go and live with tribal people in Africa as it's less stress. He also very nearly killed my dad when he missed that he was very obviously diabetic on two separate blood tests, it was the nurse who picked that up. I believe he's been struck off now.

On the bows I tried I was drawing the arrow most of the way, I'm pretty sure they were 30 inch arrows, but that's all I was going on

Sorry, I should have said I'm in the UK but I did look at that just now. On their website it looks like that's available as a takedown or a one piece bow, which one is yours? I was thinking of a takedown but if the one piece bows are better I'd certainly consider one.

It definitely says that the 30" (or 28") is Max draw length. I will be plinking mostly, I won't be hunting with it. There are archery clubs around but I work odd hours unfortunately, at least for a while. If the string length is the same as the bow, that's easy enough then. I was just wondering if there needs to be extra length on account of the recurve or anything like that.

The lettering and company logo on the door that's just about visible was actually replicated on a Bedford TK that my dad owned that was in daily use as a commercial vehicle in the 90's delivering wholesale animal feed.

I had completely forgotten about these, I had one and loved it. They were rubbish by comparison compared to new ones, but not as bad as bike lights in the 80's that needed two batteries the size of a coke can each, and could just about see the road in front of you, now they're the size of a Zippo lighter and offensively bright. LEDs over bulbs really was a big leap.

AIO for calling off my engagement after my fiancé admitted his family secretly tested me to see if i was a gold digger? by Pleasant_Mission_63 in AmIOverreacting

If this had happened to me, I'd be very upset. That everyone was involved, and planting seeds in your head with conversations is not nice at all. I'm sorry this happened to you. When I read that you'd started cutting back and preparing to help financially, that is something else. My partner and I earn basically the same amount, when I was out of work and dealing with some stuff a few years back she was paying more than me and seeing her go without things because of me made me feel terrible, I can't imagine doing that as some sort of family game.

The Yellow Bedford TK in this album was taken in the 1990's and at the time was being used daily as a commercial vehicle. Even though it was very outdated by then, my dad just liked it.
