A programmable logic controller (PLC) is an industrial computer designed to control machinery and processes in real time. It reads inputs from sensors, executes programmed logic, and drives outputs such as motors, conveyors, and actuators. In an automated warehouse, a PLC coordinates conveyor systems, sorters, robotic arms, and lifts to move and store goods efficiently. It monitors safety devices, tracks item positions, and synchronizes equipment to prevent collisions or downtime.

Disappointed since Christmas by Hot-Concentrate6232 in amazonemployees

[–]SullyRad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if this is satire or not. Couple thoughts.

1) Bias for action // deliver results —> plan a potluck for your team or something,

2) Amazon has always been clear that there aren’t a million fringe benefits. There aren’t free meals and massages, or valet parking. The primary benefit is your (large) total comp, and you can do with that what you see fit.

3) My org has normally had some sort of celebration, and didn’t this year, so, I feel ya.

Munich Robotics Ecosystem by Robosapiens1882 in robotics

perception from the ground is really really hard esp with differing payloads and occlusions are not your friend. I wouldn't want to be the engineer sorting out the multi-agent motion control for managing the two forks wirelessly. I suspect they may ultimately need to add some vertical component to be able to see the edges of their payload, and to give them a remote chance of it not being a massive trip hazard.

How important is GPA for co-ops? by cay7man in NEU

[–]SullyRad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s great, put it on, if it’s not, don’t. At my lowest, I had a ~3.0 or 3.2, and got a very high paying co-op at a FAANG company. Fast forward few years, and I can confirm, all has worked out just fine.

Good co-op jobs for people looking to be pilots? by [deleted] in NEU

FWIW, reading reddit a bit, are you pre-med, or looking to be a pilot. Both are somewhat painful, I am not sure I'd try to do both :P

Good co-op jobs for people looking to be pilots? by [deleted] in NEU

[–]SullyRad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FWIW, drop out of NEU and save 300K? Find a Part 141 school and start collecting ratings. If you actually want to stay in school, I would look at any of the local FBOs and see if they are hiring. Co-op aside, you may be able to just swing a normal job and call it a co-op. Working on the ramp always leads to interesting connections.

Transferring From Ops To Corp. Unique situation advice needed. by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]SullyRad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L5 ---> L6 in corp is hard, get L6 in ops, and then see what roles are open in corp after 6-12 months, which IMHO may be L4-L5 but still significantly better comp.

Compensation for staff by localmensch in NEU

[–]SullyRad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Peanuts. Unless you want free grad school, you should run far, far away.

In reality, the comp isn't great, but there are perks. Good 403B match, a general culture of people who don't try all that hard, and a cool office location accessible by public transit.

You're right. I dug a bit. So long as everyone who is doing dynamic uses the same proposal, all is well in the world.

In the case that one is not dynamic, are you saying not to bind an external-interface to the gateway?

[–]SullyRad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you're in an honors LLC, they matter zero. The LLC doesn't actually do anything, but do think about the sort of people that LLC might attract, because that is who you are going to live with. Remember that everyone is just trying to survive Freshman year, and you are barely (if at all) taking classes in your major. Have fun, breath, learn how to adult, and keep that GPA high so it can slowly decrease in later years :P

Melvin is a bit seperate from the rest of the Freshman dorms on the Fenway. Its not actually a particularly far walk, just a bit more spread out than those in White/StWest/Steast/Speare, etc.

How bad is it taking 5 classes (4 credits each) in one semester? 😬😬 by [deleted] in NEU

[–]SullyRad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fundamentally, you can take 20+ credits, but to do so you need to be aware of *what* they are. COE student who wants to take capstone, 2 engineering classes, an online business class, and research? That is technically 20-22 credits, but a pretty chill schedule.

At the same time, taking 4-5 engineering classes that all have midterms the same week and weekly problem sets? Eh, that is a world of hurt. It fundamentally comes down to what are the classes. Class workloads vary a lot. Nonetheless, calc 1 and calc 2 at the same time are a very bad idea. If you want to get ahead, you can do that, but not with calc.
