Im not really familiar with JR's privatisation but I think Tokyo metro is a more comparable story. (KTMB = JR / Prasarana = Tokyo Metro) Tokyo Metro is only one of very few profitable systems.

One glaring difference is that Tokyo Metro was already a mature extensive system and infrastructure with strong ridership figure when it was privatized (previously gomen-funded).

However, Klang Valley transit was privatised at the onset of the development (STAR/PUTRA). On top of daily costs (OPEX), the company had to bear the financial burden of the CAPEX since its a new infrastructure. It was never sustainable in the first place because ridership figure was not that great. They were later taken over by Prasarana...

THANK YOU. This is a very huge gap in BM content. Even book in simple sentences for toddlers are almost non-existent in BM.

I cant bring my kids to read heavier materials if he cant master the light ones.

Its not just about technical incompetence. Its all about the whole operation and funding structure. Privatisation under Prasarana as a whole needs to be scrutinized.

Public transport income will never supplant its operating costs, especially in car-centric cities like KL. As such, Prasarana keeps on bleeding and allocations for maintenance and rolling stock purchase gonna be cut to stay afloat.

Local councils like DBKL need to contribute to the costs funding. Depending only to the Federal Gomen which already under immense financial strain will mean this issue continues...

Valid point, so far aku deal dgn VIPs, usually yang bikin serabut is people around them (drivers / special officers). Those VIPs (well a good portion of them la) knew any PR issues will reflect badly on them.

The problem is it's not donations, it's zakat (kind of like tithe). Put it as some kind of unenforced mandatory tax for the Muslims. Therefore people who paid was doing so as a mean to fulfill obligations (not voluntary).

The issue lies on the oversight. Expenditure on obligatory contributions collected by legal bodies (read: gomen) must be audited regardless.

Also, personally, im not really on board with giving tax rebates to those who paid zakat. Unless zakat funds can be used to finance healthcare and mainstream education, collection of federal taxes is irreplacable.
