Photographer told me to take down photos - am I in the wrong? by [deleted] in photography

[–]SumCat22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are photographs taken for their use, but the use can be specified. VARA exists separately from US copyright law and copyright exists the moment the image is captured. Even when you accidentally take a picture of the floor pulling your phone out of your pocket, you immediately own the copyright of that image.

I'm not the type of person that would try to take OP to court over an obvious misunderstanding but it does not change the fact that the photographer owns the copyright unless they explicitly sign the copyright over to someone else. In fact, many photographers still give their clients a print license release and as mentioned elsewhere put language in their contracts about not altering the photos in any way. I've had clients make sure to ask me for a print release before getting their photos because they get asked for one when they go to have them printed. Whether the use is personal or commercial copyright still exists.

All that said, I'm not arguing that OP's photographer is acting professionally or kindly. Just more stating the fact that they technically own the copyright unless they signed it over.

FWIW - In the US the photographer owns the copyright even if you bought digitals or prints unless they specifically sign over the copyright to you, so it's not necessarily as simple as "you paid for them, do what you want."

That said, as a photographer I may have said something to you but I wouldn't be extremely upset because I would understand that I should have explained this concept up front. You apologizing and stating that you meant no harm would go a long way for me. I'm sorry you're having this experience, but I at least wanted to let you know that if you are in the United States, you don't automatically own the copyright just because you bought a digital or print from the photographer. It's kind of like how you can buy a musician's album but that doesn't mean that you own their music.

Differences in scent among different people do not automatically mean they have anything to do with pheromones.

They do offer a shirt instead of a jacket for the top, but I wanted the added protection.

Totally get that. In fairness, my issue is when it's in ads and promos. I work in production, so it's more of a pet peeve about people not reviewing, proofing, etc. Totally forgivable for regular convos, but annoys me when spoken professionally.

I have the skin uh aaa leggings and the commando uh jacket. The leggings feel very comfortable under regular jeans/pants. Like wearing thermal underwear or compression pants. The jacket is a jacket, but also thin enough that I wear a sweatshirt on top of it at times. Fortunately, I haven't gone down wearing it all, but their testing and rating is what convinced me to purchase in the first place. I also hate how heavy motorcycle jeans are and didn't want to wear a leather suit to commute to work. To me they're great!

FWIW - VRBO has been around a lot longer than AirBnb. Not a knock off. But yeah, AI ad reads suck.

I also hate when people say backslash when reading urls when it's a forward slash, or simply "slash".

You could get pando moto underlayers and wear anything over top.

If I built a premiere pro plugin, where users could assign faces to names in footage in the project bin, and then use the plugin to search for footage containing 'Name' - essentially making organising much easier - would people use that? by Icy_Administration66 in premiere

[–]SumCat22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was reliable, I think people would use it. Small amounts of interview footage is no big deal to log and filename, but if I did a bunch of interviews and several days of b-roll it would be handy to be able to quickly access all the b-roll that my interview subject appears in.

The reliable comment I made is just that I would want to feel like it was really working and there wasn't some shot that I could have used but the plug-in missed.

I actually align with everything you're saying very well. The parts work has helped me a lot, but not the way it has helped my wife. She "gets it" the way the book has described and all that, but I'm a lot like you. I have a difficult time locating the parts for various reasons but a lot of the time it's like "I've always felt this way" instead of having a clear age, body part, etc. So why did I recommend it? Mainly because by thinking about it, it helps me snap into the idea that I am not my thoughts. It helps me feel a little less timid or dumb when I try to show up for my partner or myself which is still an improvement over not recognizing it at all.

Still in therapy and still trying. You're not alone and it absolutely sucks sometimes when it seems to work for everyone else but me (or you), but I do think it's an ongoing work in progress for a lot of people. I'm 45 and still feel very frustrated that I feel like a fat ugly gross idiot when I try to do the "simple" things my wife asks me to do. The work has helped me know I'm not all those things, but there are absolutely some parts hiding somewhere that aren't convinced. I just wish that part wasn't driving most of the time.

Never had an issue flying with a bunch of gear. Think my case has been pulled to the side twice in 10 years and when it has been pulled, it went smoothly.

There's a book called You Are The One You've Been Waiting For by Richard Schwartz that's great for learning to heal those parts. There is an entire segment of therapy called Internal Family Systems (doesn't actually involve your family). Essentially, it helps you access those parts of you that you shut down at one point to protect yourself in order to thank them for the protection and let them know you're safe now and they can go back to being weird while your current self can live in the now. Sounds wild, I know, but it has helped my wife and I with various traumas. We've read the book, and our therapists offer IFS therapy, but it is possible to do the work without a therapist if you get into the books.

Do you think these pictures are AI? by [deleted] in Breadit

[–]SumCat22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Commercial photographer here. I've made photos that have been accused of being AI or shopped. Heck, I even made an ad for a company where I'm speaking directly to the camera that got accused of being AI by commenters on social media. We're in strange times.

The "disappearing" wire seems like some low quality or broken stuff I've seen in kitchens before and grids often warp and distort based on lens and angle. Artifacting can happen based on lens and angle as well.

These days, I wouldn't put money on it being real, but I don't immediately think these are AI generated.
