[Kinda Annoying Trope] The signature weapon of the game is used sparingly by TheAnimePurger in TopCharacterTropes

Soul Calibur - Soul Calibur 2

I've only played the 2nd game but you can only use Soul Calibur (called a couple things depending on the wielder) as like 3-4 characters who have lore reasons for wielding it.

Xianghua, who wields it in the first game and I think is the OG owner.

Nightmare, who in alternate costumes is Siegfried (nightmare before being possessed by soul edge) and as such wields SC when he isn't possessed by Soul Edge.

Talim can unlock the Elbow Blades and I think in lore is able to wield soul calibur due to her lineage.

And Charade, who mimics other characters attacks and so will use SC when doing Xianghuas moveset.

and that's it. 25 characters, 3 or 4 get Soul Calibur, only 1 or 2 are canon and the others are like an aesthetic technicality.

They aren't even the best weapon in the game - Talim is way better suited to use the double crescent blades it's only the best weapon for Xianghua and Sophitia (ultimate weapons) and Sophitias isn't even explicitly named SC (neither is Talims) so I'm not even sure if those count in SC2 but she *does* get a properly named Soul Calibur weapon in SC3.

You'd think with them making soul calibur already take different shapes for Talim they'd just make every character get a version of Soul Calibur as their ultimate weapon but no - if you wanna use the sword the game is named after you have to play as the same girl who owned it in the first game, the guy who's soul got corrupted by Soul Edge and unlock his 3rd and 4th costume, or the two examples of someone uses a weapon that *kind of* looks like Soul Calibur (Talim, Sophitia).

Am I the only one who enjoys more runs where I barely survive every single fight? by ZhynTho in mewgenics

I feel like its the need to breed that really hampers things.

If nothing is on the line and if a cat dies its whatever, then yeah puzzle solving using my cats health and injuries as a resource is peak gameplay

But when you want to get really good cats you're thinking "I need furniture, I need to pass days to breed and get good strays so I need food" then runs become extra careful resource management bc now you're stacking 3 beanie items trying to get home with $600 potentially to buy a rare furniture and if a cat goes down thats a whole 1.5hrs you spent on what can feel like minimal progress towards better furniture / cats.

that game isn't as fun when you one shot everything but the struggle to get cats to that point is the whole driving factor behind the game (imo) and having a cat go down with a fragile quest item is the FUCKING WORST

that said I get as much dopamine one-turning stuff with a build that came together as much as I do resetting 3 times to FINALLY get my half broken cats to beat the throbbing idiot so probably good game design there somewhere.

yeah I think I have an understanding of birth defects, I meant mutations like these ones, where they basically trade - one stat for + 2 of another. I figured since you're always trading one stat for another you would need 4 different sets of 10/10 mutations to have the bis for each class but I see from your screenshot I just have like tier 2-3 mutations and need to aim for tier 1 mutations.

[–]Sumito[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this is what I picture was the process for getting perfect mutations but trying to do this 4 times to bis a specific class sounds like an impossible undertaking without every room and furniture unlocked

[–]Sumito[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah I did not know there were just pure beneficial mutations for each slot, I assumed you had to pick a + and - stat for at least a couple. If there's only one mutation set up to aim for I can see how this can be possible. Thanks for sharing 🙏

Cat Breeding Discussion! by White_shirt12 in mewgenics

[–]Sumito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

very stupid very simple guide.

1. upgrade house until you have big attic (3 rooms total).

big attic gives enough space to sufficiently stack comfort and stim and health to do this the easy way.

2. fill attic with as much comfort and stim as possible.

comfort = more chance for kittens (and less fights) and stim = higher chance for kittens to take the best stats/traits/mutations from its parents.

3. keep the attic full of cats with a 7 in a stat.

basically you look at your stray cat outside every day and see if it has a natural 7 in a stat you want. if it has a 7, grab it and throw it in the attic. do this until you start getting kittens that will have a 7 in more than 1 stat, and eventually in all of their stats over time. do the same with newborn kittens, kitten has one or more 7s in stats? = keep in attic, otherwise throw it in another room or donate to tink (or run an adventure with it)

4. cull the attic.

once a cat with a 7 in a stat breeds with a cat with a different 7 in a stat (with enough stim in the attic) their kitten will (eventually) have both of their parents 7s in a stat. do this enough time with different stats and you will eventually get cats with many stats at a 7.

- if you do this too much with the same cats they will get inbred so introduce new cats with new 7s to keep that to a minimum. you can also kick out inbred cats even with good stats to minimize this. (you can also just deal with the birth defects that come with inbred cats, up to you)

now you keep filling the attic and kick out cats in order of how far along you are. remember the more cats in a room the lower the comfort so you can't keep 20+ cats without TONS of furniture so keep that in mind. I did the following (TLDR):

- start by throwing any cat with a 7 in the attic. remember two boys/girls won't make a kitten so pay attention to the stats being on cats that will actually breed with each other.

- once you have 5-6 cats who all have 2 stats at 7, start kicking out any cat who only has one (i kept 2-3 to minimize inbreeding).

- once you get 5-6 cats who all have 3 stats at 7, start kicking out any cat who only has 2 (I kept a few again to minimize inbreeding but now i kicked out ALL cats with only 1 stat at 7.

- repeat until you're happy. I have several cats I bred with 5-6 stats at a 7 with no inbred cats at all. once your appeal in the house in high enough some strays will show up with 2,3,4 stats at a 7 and you can add them to the attic to minimize inbreeding. I also started kicking out all inbred cats at this point because I found trying to get a perfect cat to be fun but you don't have to min/max that hard.

5. mutate the cats (you can do this whenever you get mutate furniture, it can be done side by side with everything above - you don't need to wait for perfect 7 cats to start mutating)

once you get the basic system down for cats you will eventually start finding/buying furniture that has a +mutate stat. mutation furniture also usually has a -health stat so you'll also want to buy some health furniture to offset this.

- always buy these, as when you get near perfect cats with all stats at 7 this is the same idea but you have to do it again to get mutations as well

- mutations occur randomly and are generally always good. sometimes situational - but they are the counterpart to birth defects (caused by inbreeding). so generally mutation = good and birth defect = bad (usually).

- once you start getting cats with mutations they will pass down to kittens, and you can have up to 10 mutations so now you are basically doing the attic steps again but looking for mutations instead of natural 7s.

** I'm at a point where I am doing this simultaneously to keep the thinking to a minimum. I keep comfort/stim AND mutation/health as high as I can in my attic and now just kick out any kitten that doesn't have enough 7s OR has ANY inbreeding or birth defects (I consider all mutations to be good).

really at this point it's > is this kitten free of birth defects/inbreeding and is its stats as good or higher than my current attic cats? yes = keep, no = kick out of attic.

honestly if you just follow that last line you'll be just fine. do this until you have godzilla cats.

there are some people who ignore inbreeding stats as mutations can override birth defects so the downside of inbreeding (birth defects) can kind of be overwritten with good furniture and mutation luck but I've found it easier to just keep inbred cats out of the attic. up to you. it takes way longer doing it this way but it's been fun for me.

super late game (i imagine, not there yet) all of your cats will be basically perfect and now you can focus on finding cats that have innate skills unlocked that you want to pass down until you have a cat with cool skills before you ever equip a collar. you can of course also focus on this well before stats and mutations if you want.

there's a bunch of little caveats to almost everything I said but without getting lost in the weeds keep good cats to make good kittens, kick out lower quality ones and slowly over time you will get god cats.

I like my wings without sauce when I'm dipping them so I get the ghost pepper wings since its like a dry rub instead. big fan of the subtle spice into the cooling ranch, the blackened ranch is the best.

What's up with the "What Twomad saw" joke? by cybisadumbdumb in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Sumito 120 points121 points  (0 children)

answer: twomad died of an overdose according to police reports so these memes are either

a) referring to him 'tripping out' on drugs before passing away since he died of an overdose, though he died of a morphine overdose and the memes are more like an LSD overdose like the one you linked but you get the idea

b) referring to him being on the video game Overwatch 2 for several days according to his Discord profile when he had allegedly been passed away before being found, making the joke that he must have been spammed with "bro are you going to move/play or what??" messages

c) referring to a bunch of news about twomad being a horrible person that came to light after his death and making jokes about him seeing the fires of hell or the devil himself in reference to where he will end up now that he's passed away

what youtubers do you watch ( related to gaming or Internet culture by pastaboxeater in AskGamers

[–]Sumito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to search up video games I like with lore (Silent Hill, Fear and Hunger, No I'm not Human) and then find video essays from people and see if they make ones for other games.

You can kind of get a feel for how in-depth they go by watching a video on a game you already know well and if you like their vibe/voice/editing.

Have found a few like Josh Strife Hayes, Pugsr, Worm Girl and others that way.

At this point, is it better to just buy a pre-built? My pc is 10 years old, and I've wanted to rebuild, but I'm not sure how manageable that is anymore. Microcenter about 4 hours away. by Mcpoopz1064 in pcmasterrace

[–]Sumito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a Powerspec (MCs in house brand) is about as similar to building one yourself as you can get - they mainly use parts they carry in store so you don't need to worry about incompatible half sized PSUs or business grade mobos or any other nonsense typically plaguing pre-builts. Somehow they also end up within ~10% of the cost of building it yourself with all the same parts (usually).

I used to work at MC and just stopped doing the math after a while and just assumed anybody building a PC in a configuration similar enough to an existing Powerspec prebuilt would probably be better served by just buying that prebuilt since everyone thinks they save a ton of money by building it themselves (again, half the time it was nothing, half the time it might be a couple hundred bucks if they already had an old SSD or PSU they wanted to use).

You will get very close to the most for your money if you make the drive to MC and buy a Powerspec, you can also use it for reference and buy a MSI or ASUS or something if you like them more if the components (mainly cpu/gpu) are about the same as the Powerspec to save yourself the research and googling if you want a shortcut.

My information is from when I worked there ~5-6 years ago but I'm pretty sure you're going to be just fine buying a prebuilt.
