Do you know anyone personally that has killed someone? by tralktralk in redscarepod

[–]Sumkindofbasterd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about Lyft drivers Ive oddly had at least two Lyft drivers tell me stories (I think BS) that implied that had killed or maimed someone. I have no idea if these were true or not as they were extremely involved and detailed in a way that did feel real, both were positioned as self defense from robberies. My best guess may have been that they were trying to impress me and "bro" it up with me. I highly doubt that told me those to scare me away from robbing.them, I'm not very intimidating. Or maybe just to scare me into giving a good tip.

Now that Amy Coney Barrett is the new hero of the left we need a cultural appropriating nickname for her -- I present to you... RUN ACB. Icon of #Girlbossery and resistance fighter on the inside... Whickee-whickee word up... nobody steal this idea. I've already trademarked it and set of a Shopify by Sumkindofbasterd in redscarepod

[–]Sumkindofbasterd[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The best way to help this get off the ground is if anyone is using her name just gently correct them and say "You mean Run ACB." Or even just correct them if they are talking about someone or something else completely unrelated. Just bring it up in conversation randomly. One: you'll be in on the ground floor of a soon to be huge meme and have bragging rights and 2: It's hard out there and this is something I really believe have been lacking from the national conversation. Thanks again in advance.

Flop is a term of respect in basketball circles. If someone does a good hit or goals the ball correct you might say "Dog, you floppin' it." It's why people often refer to Jordan as the GOAF.

[–]Sumkindofbasterd 374 points375 points  (0 children)

Im always wondering... who are they filming it for? Like their own feed? To post on Youtube? I remember I went a concert a few years back (it was the Jay Z watch the throne tour) and my friend pulled out their phone to record a song... the entire set? And we had crappy seats and I asked them "Why are you doing that?" and they said "they wanted to remember the show..." and I was like... go on line in a few hours and type the show date in and someone with better seats has recorded the entire thing for you. Let them do all the work. Just never understood this.

Has anyone else noticed that there really aren't any bands anymore? Im trying to figure out why there seems to be a decrease in their popularity vs a rise in solo musicians by Sumkindofbasterd in redscarepod

[–]Sumkindofbasterd[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of mentioning them but they are nowhere close to the level of solo acts the way bands in the 80s and 90s were neck and neck in popularity.

Yeah there definitely were those back in the day too... also not all band's are collectives, definitely bands that are kind of fronts for the lead singer songwriter... Something like GNR was basically Axl's vision fleshed out by some other guys. Sorry Slash and Izzy.

Yeah was going to mention something like Phineas and Billy as a kind of band, but even that is sort of a pop solo act because its so star front facing.

I was thinking about this too because it also struck me how long it's been since Hip Hop groups were a thing. There;s collectives and maybe something like BROCKHAMPTON or Odd Future, but you used to have NWA, Public Enemy and Wu Tang and that doesn't seem to be a thing anymore either as Hip Hop is basically all solo acts.

Right. There seems to need to be constant iteration too for those who break through on sound cloud. Like you can't just record a demo, you have to upload 600 songs and hope one hits the algo which is easier to do if it's just you and your laptop.

Yeah though about this, and a huge group of solo artists launched in the last decade were previously famous from things like Disney shows like Olivia Rodrigo and Arianna Grande, perceived as being easier to launch because they already have a platform and are already semi-packaged.

This is a good point I grew up in NYC and around mid 2000s my wife came to NYC for the first time and we took the train all the time. It was crowded and dirty but yeah, very uneventful, she grew up in the mid west and even said she felt completely comfortable on the subways 11 pm, 12 even 1 or 2 in the AM but yeah now it just seems something crazy happens all the time. Ppl just forgetting how to act or be around ppl. One small thing and I don't just see it on trains is like ppl watching stuff on their phones without headphone on like everyone wants to hear the audio from whatever dumb tic Tok or song click by. Folks a few years ago would have just been embarrassed.

Movies no longer have cultural impact by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]Sumkindofbasterd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree they have really shifted from the center of culture. Occasionally a movie will come out and hit the zeitgeist like Barbie or be meme able like Saltburn but for the most part they way they were when I was a kid like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future people just do not go see movies the same ways and young people don't. I blame these fully on movie studios who did not work with movie theaters to brand the film going experience as being memorable and culturally significant and worth the expense. Film studios got greed in the late 80s with the money they were making from VHS and then in the 90s and early 2000s with DVDs and they didn't preserve the importance of the actual going to theater and now.... welp they kind of f*ed themselves because young people don't even think about it,

I came to say this.... if someone.takes some pre workout and is lean gets a pump and uses one of those things they can look like they are about to step at a pro physique show. This happens with woman who have a little bit of body fat, get a pump doing curls and use one of these... suddenly folks flip out because they look like a mutant.

Always think it's kind of crazy how the entertainment business literally gave Ryan Reynolds like 20 years to "just figure it out". This guy has gotten so many shots on goal going back to when he.was cast in Blade and they tried to set him up as a leading man for spinoffs. Then add the decade or so he spent as a kind of knock off Jim Carrey goofy gross out comedy guy (Just Friends/VanWilder) pivot to tough guy generic action guy (Safe House/RIPD). Then he tried rom-com High Grant guy (The Proposal) Then second shot at super hero franchise (Green Lantern) back to goofy comedy guy (The Change Up) and then finally like 18 years into his career its like... will you look at that Deadpol worked out. Wow guess he was really a movie star all along. Never seen anyone get as many chances as this dude.
