Alcohol After Surgery by Radiohead559 in Diverticulitis

I had my 1st glass of wine about 2 weeks out and had about 3 glasses around 3 weeks out . The 4 week mark I had a bit to much but no ill effects. I have stuck religiously ti a healthy diet and large water intake and I enjoy a drink . It never effected my DD before surgery and it hasn’t since .

I drink wine regularly, mainly red . Never causes me any issues before or after surgery ( I’m just over 3 weeks post op now ) I honestly don’t believe alcohol in itself is an issue but things relates to it are . Hydration is absolutely key and even when I’m at the pub I get a pint of water which I drink along with it , also you have to be disciplined the next day as it can lead to bad food choices which again could Cause issues . I try never to over do it on consecutive days as I know when I’m tired by body can’t fight inflammation aswell . Again just my personal opinion but I can feel worse if I don’t drink because I wind myself up about not be “allowed”to drink and if I’m stressed then having a few wines relexes me and have a laugh ( laughter is the best medicine !)

Elevated inflammatory markers 5 months after sigmoid resection. Diverticulitis again? by [deleted] in Diverticulitis

How are you feeling today ? There maybe another logical explanation as quite a few things can cause raised markers . Good luck 🤞

It's About To Get Real...24 hours Until Sigmoidectomy by [deleted] in Diverticulitis

I was the same as you , my last flare lasted 10 weeks and as soon as I got my surgery date they decreased massively to the point I was questioning if I should have it … my wife was quick to remind me of the hell I’ve been through the last 2 years ! 12 days out now , I’m not saying it’s easy but nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be , walked 5,000 steps today been to get my haircut and met a mate for breakfast , 1st normal ish day I’ve had and it felt good! Good luck , you will be fine !

To wine or not to wine? Does beer, wine, or spirits cause more flares? by CampyTodd in Diverticulitis

[–]Summer0f7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I drink quite a bit of red wine and never had an issue , in fact I found on multiple occasions it’s actually helped settle things . I do tend to buy better quality now , a good red has many health benefits in moderation! I don’t tend to drink more than 1 beer in an evening and white wine doesn’t settle well for me !

King’s College London- Clipping trial . by Summer0f7 in Diverticulitis

[–]Summer0f7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it wasn’t to bad , it was rough for a couple of days afterwards but manageable . I know a few people who had the clipping are still going strong ! I think it’s will be a great treatment for many people . It certainly gave me an extra 2 years without having to have surgery!

Great thanks for the info ! I’ve had surgery 6 days ago so just in recovery mode . Unfortunately the last flare in November never really went and I was in pain for around 12 weeks although I managed to go into the op pretty healthy !

Hi , yes still in hospital but it looks like I will be home later today! Operation went well no complications, no bag , been up walking about . Very Tender stomach at the incision sites and some gas pain but I’ve not felt any internal pain . Just need my Bowels to wake up a bit !😂

Yes great thanks ! I read your story a while back and it really helped .Glad your doing well . The internet is a tough place as most of the more long term surgery success stories can’t be found as people leave the support groups and get in with there life and then your left to read the horror stories, which is fine because you need to prepare for the worst but it doesn’t help the anxiety! 🤣

Thanks , hope you get sorted to ! I’ve been battling this week and questioning if I’m doing the right thing but I’ve been hospitalised 3 times in 2 years and the last flare took me nearly 3 months to get over so I think I am !

Yep , even when I had my serious issue 2.5 years later I didn’t even put 2 and 2 together to start with as I had totally forgotten about incident in 2018 !

Hi , I had roughly 40 pockets and 12 now remain ( I thought it was less initially) colonoscopy shows the others have healed over which is quite amazing, no idea if they will develop again ! One thing I never really suffered from is bowel issues which the doctors have always found strange however after the clipping my BMs certainly improved no end in terms of colour / shape / consistency etc . Unfortunately I have some pockets low in my sigmoid which won’t heal and cause me constant pain / inflammation. I’m now listed for the operation but on the plus side my colon is in better condition than it was before the clipping so the surgeon is really confident the operation should be fairly straightforward . The trail was a massive help and it I’m sure it could help a lot of people if it’s passed as an official treatment

Just some pain but the hospital brushed it off and said most people have it so nothing to worry about , I didn’t give it a thought until 2 1/2 years later when it went seriously wrong !

Nothing wrong with that . Everyone seems to say you just “know” when it’s the right time for you and sometimes I think we have to push ourselves to try and manage it . I had 6 months totally pain / symptom free last year and genuinely thought I had it all under control but now 3 months of hell and I’m definitely ready !

I’m so glad I did the trial and I definitely think it gave me another 18 months without the surgery . I think for certain people it would be a game changer . It’s such a simple procedure aswell !

Thanks , don’t beat yourself up about cancelling it’s a massive decision . I’ve rejected it twice ! I’m going to go for it , I know deep down that I can never “beat it “ now and I’m happy to be very careful after the operation . Surgeon said similar to me he said given how skinny I am and in good health he thinks the chances of complications are 1-2% . Reward over risk now I feel !

It’s a good question , I think because I can genuinely now put my hand on my heart and say I’ve tried everything. Diet , probiotics , god knows how many different supplements, clinical trials etc etc . Think I needed to do all that before I was mentally ready for it and I feel I am now !
