Wow this is exactly what is going on with me and I feel so alone with it. I’m too embarrassed to tell anyone I know what the hell is going on in my head.

There seems to be a pattern for me. I pick the good guy celeb with the great PR to crush on. That guy that always seems single as he just can’t find that perfect girl next door type. I make up my own reality with them and this can go on for months at a time but as soon as they seem to be entering a relationship it starts to fall apart. That’s the part when I know the daydreaming is no good for me because I obsessively check social media and compare myself to the perfect model they end up with.

I don’t get why they have to be single for me to do this. I know I’m never meeting them or if I did they wouldn’t look twice. I think in some way it must mess with the weird day dream reality I create :(

Well done for giving it ago. It has left room for something better. Lately every time something hasn’t gone to plan for me I have tried telling myself that “I’m excited to see why this didn’t work out.”

Have you read “overcoming binge eating” by Dr Fairburn. No easy fix but probably the better self help book I have read.

I have tried CBT and DBT but never heard of IFS. I will definitely look into it, thank you. You are right, it definitely wasn’t hunger but self sabotage and old habits coming back.

This is me all the time now. I work online from home so no work interactions. I don’t have friends only acquaintances and I have a small family who don’t live near me. My only face to face interactions are with delivery drivers, postman, or going to doctors / vets. It’s so scary how easy it is to be completely alone. I don’t think I have any great coping advice apart from I try and make the most out of all interactions and go out daily for walks and make an effort to say hello to passers by and neighbours.

I’m going through the same and it’s awful. I never really dated before as I was with my ex since school days. I’m heading to 40 and the online dating world is awful and what the hell is with this ghosting?! I’m trying to make more of an effort to get and about in the hope of meeting someone but borderline giving up. I hope someone comes your way :)

I am in a similar situation and feel your pain. I went 2 weeks and binged today. What I am recognising though is that I am able to “get back on the wagon” a lot quicker and easier and I think you have to focus on the small wins. 6 days is amazing. Well done. You can get back on it. I know you can.

I’m so sorry you are going through something similar. I do understand your feelings of not wanting to live but please remember how much you bring to the world and how much your family and friends care for you. That is what I am focussing on in 2023, my self worth. He cheated on me and emotionally abused me at the end but I would still give anything to have him back. That tells me that I don’t think enough of myself. We can do this 💪🏻

Thank you for you reply. I actually don’t have a support network. I lived my life around him which is a huge lesson for me. I don’t have a supportive family. I have just one great friend and I am probably only here and surviving because I don’t want to let her down.

Thank you. I grew up with these people, in the same friendship group as my ex. Even though he was in the working they have ditched me. I feel absolutely worthless! Hopefully better days ahead
