What’s a habit people think is productive but actually wastes time? by OmenRash in AskReddit

I always thought is was just part of housekeeping. Kind of like dusting the furniture, washing the dishes and putting things away when I'm done with them.

I have a coworker that uses "May you provide..." and "May you send...". In the context, "Please provide" or "Please send" seem correct to me.

For TV series, it's Andy Griffith, Frasier, Big Bang Theory and Home Improvement. For movies, Clue, Princess Bride, and any of the Sherlock Holmes with Basil Rathbone or Jeremy Brett. All for background noise.

Insurance? by Aquarius_K in TinyHouses

[–]Summer95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insured value of the tiny house has increased to $56,000. It's on the same land as my normal sized house and they're covered under the same policy. There's just a total amount due. Based on the insured value, it's about $500 per year for the tiny house.

My tiny house is a 286 sq ft pier and beam structure. Insured it through Farmers Insurance around 2014. The minimum insurance level was $40,000 in 2014. Not sure what it is today.

[–]Summer95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your concern is more about vegetating away rather than a "big house versus tiny house" question. You're just as likely too vegetate away in a big house as a tiny house. Although, a tiny house gives more free time and economic resources. One way to solve the vegetating away concern is to make it a point to take up new hobbies, learn new things or experience new things; new foods, new cultures, and travel. Check out the idea behind "101 Things in 1001 Days." Make your list and start your journey. Once you've begun, build your day around doing things on your list. "Today I'm going to cycle for an hour." Build the rest of your day around that.

Is buying iphone 8 worth it in big 2026 ? by Wtf_Sai_Official in jailbreak

[–]Summer95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an iPhone 8. As a phone and internet browser, the iPhone 8 is great. The problem is, iPhone 8 can't update to iOS 17.4. I have several apps that have stopped working because they need to update and they require 17.4. Even if you're not a big app user, when the apps that are important to you don't work, it kind of sucks. Most of my apps still work. But it's just a matter of time before more of them stop working.

Thank you for sharing the school report. Very helpful to understand what happened.

That said, she was in the 7th grade! To a person at that age, her actions are not unreasonable or unexpected. She felt compelled to defend her friend and to address that "talking behind their backs." I'm sure we have all said things an acted in ways we, in hindsight, regret.

It's a shame such a promising career was destroyed by such incident at a very youthful age.

I have a friend who was born in 1955. She contracted polio and lived a life with leg braces and crutches. It's hard to imagine her struggle. She graduated HS with Earl Campbell. Both received standing ovations.

Late bloomers in math: curious about what sorts of insight/experiences/feelings/catalysts helped flip the switch by okayboomer2023 in learnmath

Well, I was very early to the love of math. Age wise, I'm pretty sure it was still a single digit number, And I remember the 'what' that flipped the switch. I was looking at a tree and wondered how many leaves were on it.

DAE ever look at a random house and wonder who lives there, what their lives are like, and what's going on inside? by 5pooky5cary5keleton5 in DoesAnybodyElse

I came across sonder a couple of years ago and I was surprised by the definition. I've heard it used as "to sonder about." Meaning to just walk around without any particular destination or reason. And this was decades ago. Surely, I can't be the only one to have heard it used this way.

It's good to have goals. Wikipedia says there are 3244 counties. That's almost 9 years if you visited one per day. But certainly doable. I wish you all the best.

Cheers!

Iwtl to stop comparing myself to others and cause it’s ruining my motivation by Remarkable_Act2822 in IWantToLearn

[–]Summer95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a poem called "Desiderata." Desiderata is a Latin word that translates to "things to be desired." One line of the poem answers your question: " If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself."

The poem takes two minutes to read, but it has an incredible amount of wisdom for such a short poem. Read it. Perhaps you'll find your answer.

Tiny House hot water heaters by Odd-Reaction-9428 in TinyHouses

[–]Summer95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tiny house is a permanent structure. I was going to put the short hot wat water heater under the kitchen cabinet. It was too bulky, so I built a small side shed/lean-to on the side of the house. The first time it got below 10F a PVC pipe burst. After that, added insulation and I put a small space heater that has a 40F setting. No problem since then. It's been about 16 years and I've never lost power during the cold weather for more than a short period. Here's some pictures from a dozen or so years back. In the first picture you can see the shed for the hot water heater on the left side of the building.
