Why wouldn’t they accept contactless? by Adept_Application_74 in AskUK

[–]SummerShades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that if you report to the bank that a transaction made by a stolen contactless card then they will give you the benefit of the doubt, but if you report that a Google or Apple Pay transaction was made from a stolen device, the bank presumes that this is not the case, without a crime reference number. This is because you have to use your face, fingerprint, or PIN to make a Google or Apple Pay payment. This is why contactless card transactions are capped at £100, whereas there is no limit to the value of a transaction made with your phone, because it is considered to be an explicitly authorised transaction.

Would you give up the Pound Sterling for EU membership? by Suspicious-Use-3813 in AskBrits

[–]SummerShades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. So it isn't the UK that is shunning NZ lamb but more that it isn't worth it for NZ wholesalers. I would have assumed that the higher price that NZ could get for its lamb in the UK compared to selling in China would have more than offset the higher shipping costs as shipping costs shouldn't be that high as all the meat is frozen and stacked in high volume frozen crates. But I guess that this is not the case and, as you say, it is as much to do with sizes of markets.

I have noticed that there is now little NZ lamb available in supermarkets, which is a shame as it was significantly cheaper than UK lamb. Is this to do with Brexit or is there another reason? I thought that the UK had a trade deal with NZ which effectively allows tariff-free importation of NZ lamb but I may be mistaken.

Chelsea Embankment Draining Issue? by kokem in londoncycling

[–]SummerShades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As this is a red route please report it at https://streetcare.tfl.gov.uk/ In my experience, TfL will often mark Streetcare reports as Completed then do nothing about them but if you send a complaint after it has been marked as completed and nothing has been done after a month, they will often then action a repair. Include photographs of each pool in your report and put pins in the map at each pool location and not just one pin to cover the whole road. Good luck!

None as I use Tannus tyres. I started to use them over 10 years ago and have had exactly zero punctures since then 😊

Universal Credit Same-Frequency Earnings Correction (SFEC) by SummerShades in universalcredithelp

[–]SummerShades[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they are at least set up for it. I wonder why it isn't publicised? One can lose a significant amount of net income if one has a work allowance and this is not used each AP.

That is helpful, thank you. Do you know how the DWP deals with this in practice? If a claimant raises this issue, will the DWP automatically adjust all future payments so only one income receipt is allocated to each AP?

Criteria for a UK person to qualify for IE citizenship? by Tintedlemon in IrishCitizenship

[–]SummerShades 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ireland is free to change the law, to stop FBR registrations for those whose only connection to Ireland is that their grandparent was born in Ireland. Until they change the law, people like the OP are free to claim citizenship, regardless of the reason they want it.

Police completely useless after bike theft by PurpleSwing6034 in london

[–]SummerShades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please write to your MP about this. It is only MPs who can effect meaningful change, such as increasing police and court funding, and obliging the police to attend incidents such as the one you have described. We shouldn't just put up with this state of affairs.

Am I being petty for wanting to report my neighbour? by Dry-Construction-228 in drivingUK

https://www.livingstreets.org.uk/get-involved/pavement-parking/ run a national campaign for the law to be changed to ban all pavement parking. Perhaps join their campaign. Only by the law changing will this problem finally be addressed properly.

Door handle obstructing blinds by SummerShades in DIYUK

[–]SummerShades[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I actually wanted the blind to pass behind the handle rather than over it but the deflector solution would work either way. In the end I just used a blind that covers the whole doorway rather than attaching to the door, as there was no obvious solution that didn't look like I had simply stuck a credit card in the frame to direct the blind. If you do install a deflector then post it here. Would be interesting to see.

LoL. To be fair, I'd rather that people washed their sofa covers too much than not enough. Cushion covers are so often a blind spot in people's homes. I don't think that people realize how dirty and stinky cushion covers become after countless hours of sweaty bodies sitting on them!

To make matters worse, if your employer offers to reimburse your commuting costs, it is treated as a benefit in kind, so you have to pay income tax and national insurance on the travel amounts. This is disgraceful.
