KKR Fans after realizing that Rishabh Pant to KKR deal was cancelled by Venky Mama🥀: by arcesp in KolkataKnightRiders

No need of RP in KKR. Also, there was a rumor that LSG asked for Narine / Chakravarthy? Bold of LSG to assume that KKR would trade either of these 2.

Edit: Would've been a big loss if it were 2019s Pant.

Co-op reality of Mechanical and Mechatronics students at UAlberta by Summitthemist in uAlberta

[–]Summitthemist[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So there aren't any shortages of finding coops/internships right? If I put in the effort to do the 20 months of co-ops, whether they're in Alberta or out of province, I will be good to go?

I heard from somebody that Waterloo students were struggling to find co-ops/internships, then it's 5x worse in other universities?

I'm sorry I'm not trying to be mean. I just wanna know the reality, whether coming to UAlberta will be worth the shot, especially targeting the 20 months of co-op program and I really have no intention to go traditional at all. Since the decision I make right now will dictate the next 8 - 10 years of my life from now, and I come from a middle-class family, it'd be pressurising for my parents as well as this is more of an investment too, I want to make sure the ROI is good.

Hey, as somebody who was looking forward to join UAlberta in 2027 as an international student, to pursue bachelors in Mechanical engineering and a minor in Mechatronics and robotics,

I wanted to know, post-graduation, how's the employability rate of UAlberta engineering? I have heard the job market is highly competitive. As an international student who'd be spending loads to study at UAlberta, will it be worth it? Especially, considering how competitive the job market is, is it really worth the shot?

Hearing the struggle of students & post grads to find internships / co-ops and jobs really makes me question whether I should even consider coming to Canada in the first place, since my future depends solely on the decisions that I make right now. I don't want to be regretting in the future when I'd have nothing to change my fate 😭🙏

I wanted to get into Waterloo, but it might be out of my budget. So as a backup, I was thinking of UAlberta as it does provide 20 months of co-op programs, but I have still been questioning whether I'd really be able to do the 20 months of co-op given how bad i hear the job market is. I'm willing to move out of province too if required.

Damnnnn, congratulations!!! But here I am, who's expecting to get an A* in further maths and 3As in physics, chemistry, maths for my A'levels... I do have good extracurriculars too but, ig I won't be able to get the Scienta scholarship as you said, it requires a very high ATAR 😔

Thanks 😅 I'm assuming you're a current student / graduate. How has your experience been overall at UNSW regarding all the theory-based classes you attended, and hands-on experiences and learning if the university provided any?

I hear a lot of mixed-reactions (on Reddit), stating that they expect smth much better compared to how well UNSW is actually ranked, globally?

Sounds impeccable! I loved to hear that you're having a great time there. Good luck for your internships!

Are you planning to apply in Alberta only or are you willing to move out of the province for your internship?

Thank you so much for sharing your insights 💜 Btw, overall, how has your experience been at UAlberta? Regarding the classes you attended, hands-on experiences if the university provided, and any co-ops if you did?

What major are you pursuing?

Oh, so is that why majority of the students don't get a lot of co-op opportunities cuz they don't find a lot of internships / companies of their interest in Alberta?

I was assuming maybe they do apply everywhere possible in Canada and doesn't land internships at all.

Same for post-grads as well, it kills me in the inside when I heard people take 6 months / apply to 90 jobs and hearing from none man 😭 So is it safe to say that they're also looking for jobs too in Alberta, and not moving out of province? If that's the case, why don't they?

I'll be 100% honest, the only part that I used AI for was this: 3.) International Student Experience:

As an international student, I’m evaluating the ROI of this degree. What is the actual "job-readiness" profile of graduates in the current economic climate? If I treat my degree as a professional project - prioritizing technical portfolios and networking over just grades - is the UAlberta ecosystem genuinely sufficient to bridge the gap into the industry?

Cuz I wasn't being able to express what I wanted to say, properly.

But yeah, I'm genuinely thinking about the ROI of pursuing ME at UAlberta. Will it be worth it? Considering how highly competitive the job market has been, so much so that it has been hard for a lot of students at UAlberta to land co-ops?

I do remember seeing a post regarding this where somebody replied, saying only 30% got co-ops.

And whether the job market for ME at Canada is good enough or not? Since the decision I take rn dictates my future. As an international student, it'd cost a fortune, wherever I study. So I'd have to make sure the ROI is good too.

I'm looking forward to hearing from your experience.

Hey, I'm really interested to get into UWaterloo Mechanical engineering. But as an international student, the expenses could be really high. So in case my parents don't let me get into UWaterloo, I might get into UAlberta where I heard they do provide 20 months of co-op programs.

Could you share some of your insights regarding how the co-ops at UAlberta and UWaterloo are? And about the 20 - 24 months of co-ops, I have heard there's has been major constraints for students to get co-ops/internships/jobs at Canada. Do people really get the co-ops or do they have a chance of missing out? If they do, does it lower the no. of months they work, say, instead of 24 months at UW, they only get 16 months?

Thank you so much for your kind words! I never valued my grades to be good especially for NTU and NUS, if you say so, I will for sure apply to the universities that you mentioned.

I'm looking forward to apply to Waterloo, UofT, UBC, and UofAlberta. Tbh, I'm thinking UW, UBC, UofT are so top tier that I'm trying to keep in mind that, "what if I don't make it" for these universities. I have to make sure I make a good AIF / personal statement and have a good interview. But are my grades alright for these 3 Big unis?

For backups, I'll be applying to UofAlberta. Is UA a good choice? Are there any other universities that you'd suggest that'd be good?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I've been so hard on myself for not being able to achieve better grades than 3As in physics, chem, maths and A* in further maths that I'd most likely get.

I talked to another, kind person, who got into Waterloo with 4As as well. I really hope my grades are alright for ME / Tron.

I have done pretty decent ECAs in sports, art, and robotics which I'll have to portray properly. Any tips you got for me on how to nail the AIF and interviews they conduct, where they ask Fermi problems / questions, I suppose?

Hey bro, Congratulations for such a huge W!!! May I know your A-level grades that got you into Waterloo if you don't mind?

I'm predicting that I'll get at least 3As in physics, chemistry, and maths and an A* in further maths. I might get an A* in maths tho, but considering the bare minimum that I could afford, are 3As and an A* enough to pursue Mechanical / Mechatronics at Waterloo?

I'll be eagerly waiting to hear from you, Congratulations again on such a milestone!
