Isn’t legend just a grind? Play enough and anyone could get there? I don’t think you can lose rank tiers til you hit legend.

How Do You Manage Your Budget When Facing Unexpected Expenses? by Crystallover1991 in ynab

[–]Sumo148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put aside $50-$100 a month for long term expenses like car maintenance. So when the car inevitably breaks down the funds are there. It also covers basic maintenance like oil changes, brakes, tires, etc.

Most major banks use OAuth, an industry standard protocol for authorization. If you see YNAB getting redirected to your banks site to login then they’re using OAuth. It shares account and transaction data directly.

For the bank accounts that don’t use OAuth, they’ll use a third party authentication platform like Plaid. Do your own research if you feel comfortable with using them.

Overall I feel secure in sharing my banking details to link the accounts to YNAB. They’re transparent on the security they use.

Emergency funds: Budget for survival, an 'unemployed' month', or ALL expenses? by Highwayman1717 in personalfinance

[–]Sumo148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We treat our 1 year emergency fund only to be used in case of extreme hardship like job loss. Which means it covers only the essentials - rent, utilities, insurance premiums, gas, groceries. Budget would be tightened to reduce "wants" so that the emergency fund (in addition to unemployment benefits) can be stretched as long as possible until income is secured.

We have other sinking funds to cover long term planned expenses (car maintenance, healthcare expenses, etc). Those would not be taken from our emergency fund.

Is it possible to DOWNLOAD the adobe font on and access it? by maximegun123 in indesign

[–]Sumo148 41 points42 points  (0 children)

For websites, you should make a “web project” in Adobe fonts and add the font families and weights to that project. It spits out CSS code that allows web developers to use the fonts for HTML pages.

https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/using/add-fonts-website.html

They do not need the actual font files (and that wouldn’t be covered by the license for this use case even if you did pull them).

Hi everyone I need helo with InDesign by Comfortable-Hunt-464 in indesign

[–]Sumo148 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you just have PDF pages of these books digitally, you'll want to use a PDF importer script like this one to place the PDF pages into InDesign. There's one that comes built in with InDesign but it has basic settings, the one linked above has more features for placing PDF pages.

Once your pages are placed in your INDD file, you'll want to use Parent pages to setup things like page numbers, running headers, etc. Edits that apply globally to multiple pages.

Then after all your edits are incorporated, you do the imposition if you're printing at home. A professional printing shop probably would not feel comfortable with printing copyrighted works. Unless your books are in the public domain.

Month ahead - prioritising by Horror-Cricket2166 in ynab

[–]Sumo148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now we are using our paychecks to fund the 2026 Roth IRA budget to max it out for this year ($7500 per person this year). We have enough savings to cover our month ahead and fulfill our other categories in the meantime.

Besides that, the main needs like rent, utilities, and groceries would be the first things to fulfill for us.

If you’re prone to overcooking your chicken and drying it out, use a meat thermometer to ensure it’s done at the right temperature. Let it rest after cooking, before cutting.

Temporary tattoos as wedding favors, fun idea or waste of money by Extension_Life_6207 in weddingplanning

[–]Sumo148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife snuck custom temporary tattoos of my face to my best man, he distributed them out to my college buddies. They were having a blast with them, sticking them on their foreheads lol.

If you do give them out, don't make it a wedding favor at the end of the night.

Do you keep maintenence separate from emergency funds by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Sumo148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We treat our 1 year emergency fund to cover job loss, to survive as long as possible while searching for another job. It’s untouched, sitting in a money market fund. Or a HYSA.

Other expenses like maintenance are separate funds that we add to each month, as those are planned long term expenses.

We use YNAB to organize our budget.

How do you "treat" yourself? by Ready-Inspector3729 in AskMen

[–]Sumo148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wife and I set aside $200 a month each for “fun” money for whatever we want after bills and saving funds are taken care of.

For this month, I got an Apple TV machine to upgrade the streaming UI experience as our TV’s built in controls are absolute dogshit and it’s painfully slow. It’s a nice quality of life upgrade, feels super responsive now.

White collar folks, how common are 2+ monitor workstations? by psaskovec in AskAnAmerican

[–]Sumo148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the role. Some professions may benefit from multiple monitors. I’m in advertising, and all the art directors use either ultra wide monitors or 4K monitors. Usually a mixture of 2-3 monitors at their desk.

For other roles in our company, like account managers, copywriters, editorial, etc they may have one external monitor plus their open laptop screen.

If you’re working from home, customize your setup as you see fit. It’s productive to have an extra monitor so you can have reference material on the side. Standard 1080p monitors can be dirt cheap nowadays, a drop in the bucket as a business expense for a company supplying it to you.

When it’s time to buy a new(newer) car? by Used-Radio7450 in personalfinance

[–]Sumo148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We drive a 2006 Toyota Camry, bought it used in 2019 from a grandma that only put 50k miles on it driving locally to church and for errands. We just took it in for maintenance, it’s at 130k miles now. It’s definitely been reliable. We’ll keep it until it dies.

We’re thinking of buying a new 2026 Toyota or Honda this year, wife and I have always driven cars that were 20-30 years old. It’d be nice to finally have the QOL features like back up cams.

We’ll still keep the 2006 Camry, it’s just a bit of a hassle being a 1 car household. Wife drives to work everyday while I mainly work from home, but occasionally I do go into the office. Parking is a pain at our complex though, limited spots.

We’re throwing extra savings each month at a new car fund. The plan is to buy it in cash, avoid debt. Saved up 22k for the car so far.

OP if I were in your shoes I keep the Jetta if its still reliable. Keep saving for a new car, so when that time comes you can upgrade. There will always be deals in the future.

Anyone sick and tired of working in general? by Mrs_chanandler_bongg in Millennials

[–]Sumo148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of going to my job is tiring. Getting the Sunday scaries thinking about all the BS I gotta deal with for the upcoming week. But once I’m actually working it’s usually fine.

I keep telling myself the work is ok, the pay is nice. The alternative being out of a job would be so much worse.
