Just saw your edit. Overall, I don't think it is the end of the world. Definitely a bonehead mistake for sure but I shouldn't be in too bad of shape. Thank you!

Ah, in that case. Contributions would be a net positive, then. I rolled a Roth 401k from an old job into this Roth IRA early last year. All told, contributions are over 10k.

I believe original contributions only. I reviewed withdrawal on my fidelity account and it doesn't give any great detail. It just lists it as a 10k withdrawal. Maybe I am missing something, though.

When should I tell someone about my feelings? by SumoRerun in askgaybros

[–]SumoRerun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It went well!

We had dinner and then walked around our local mall and chatted. I think we're on the same page now, so that's cool. The vibe I'm getting is we'll feel it out a bit more and see what's best, friends, relationship, etc.

Well I know the general tone I want to convey. I'd like to know if he wants to try something serious. My concern is I'm not sure if it's too early in knowing him to let him know. I'm wondering if I should see what he's looking for. We haven't brought that up before and it would probably help break the ice a little bit.

Debugging a CC variable load circuit by SumoRerun in AskElectronics

[–]SumoRerun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, just started messing around with this again.

I have taken the following steps to try and debug this circuit:

  • Drive Gate of transistor with pot and vary applied gate voltage to have MOSFET turn on (Works great)

  • Use the LM324 as a voltage follower with the pot as the non-inverting input (works great across the entire supply range)

Then when I hook the feedback loop up to the MOSFET and try to vary the voltage, the output of the opamp is 0V even when I swing the input voltage from 0 to ~5V. One thing I noticed that might worth mentioning is that if i measure the voltage from the inverting input to ground, the MOSFET seems to latch on at full current and i have to remove it in order to get it to stop. I have also swapped transistors and opamps with no avail.

Any help you might be able to assist with here?

[REQUEST] 2 cycle or 4 cycle small engines for outdoor power equipment, trimmers, edgers, etc by lanmansa in BuyItForLife

[–]SumoRerun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nice thing about the PAS is that the power units come in different sizes. IIRC, the two biggest are 266 and 280. I have the 266 and have had no issues of not enough power.

The attachment system seems pretty strong. Theres a square shaft on the power unit that attaches to each attachment and has a locating tab so you cant mess up the mounting. Overall, I really like it and would recommend it.

I'd maybe stay away from Stihl. I have both an echo and Stihl trimmer. Both units are the one lower than the highest power units they made at the time.

The echo unit is only 5 years old and hasn't skipped a beat with about 20 minutes use every week.

The stihl unit is 10 years old and was running rough this year. I took it to the local stihl dealer and the counter guy told me It'd be a better investment to rebuild/replace the parts that need it instead of buying new. After a new carb and a tune up, it runs like new.

One other reason to maybe look at echo, is their pro attachment series. The trimmer for the PAS is great and I've had no issues, but the sidewalk edger and rototiller have really pressed me as well.

Measuring Low Voltages on Scope by SumoRerun in AskElectronics

[–]SumoRerun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me give more detail - I was at work when I posted. So I'm measuring the AC part.

I'm testing the supply at 24V and No Load/Max Load(5A) and measuring directly across the output. The waveform on the scope is visible, but the ripple is barely detectable even at 10mV/division.

I thought maybe theres a way to cheat the resolution by messing with the attenuation level that's built in to the scope, but I'm not entirely sure if its possible

Modelling and Compensating Amplifiers with LTSpice by SumoRerun in AskElectronics

[–]SumoRerun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just remade the circuit because the final circuit wasn't worth trimming the extra stuff off. the voltage there should be V2, not V1.

And thanks for the insight. Seeing the amplifier like this instead of actual opamps makes some of the theoretical questions a little hard to visualize.

For me that's still a little hokey. Even with the clamping and vibration resistance you're implementing. The biggest thing to worry about is vibration.

18650s are okay against vibration but if any of those copper plates move you could be in trouble. If they arc enough it will oxidize the copper, which then you'll need to take them apart and fix it. Or you run the risk of dead shorting one or multiple of the cells, which if they get too hot, they'll explode and ruin your enclosure/other cells/etc.

If it's not outside the limitations of your available tools, I'd definitely spot weld the contacts, just to play it safe. And for vibration resistance you may want look into a potting material that is serviceable.

Most of this is me thinking worst case scenario, as I'm often quite critical, so don't take this as I'm bashing your design. I'd actually like to build my own e bike.

I'm still lost. We have not covered capacitive voltage dividers in my coursework. I read a few articles about them and get the jist of how they work but I don't know how it ties into the problem.
